Not sure if I'd be considered a new driver but I'll post it here to start.

Looking at my options and a little bit of advice from some of you experienced and knowledgeable otr drivers out there. Thanks in advance!
Me, 40 with over 10 years of local regional driving experience in the construction, ag and industrial transportation. All the miles are flatbed, dovetail, detach and slide axles. No accidents or major tickets in those years. I guess I would be considered a local driver considering I was home most every night.
Is this an issue as far as getting on as a company driver somewhere for over the road? Is there an exact definition of over the road experience? I've been looking at this forum and Craigslist to see what's out there for openings. I'm in the Northwest so what company should I be looking at.
Once again thanks in advance! Rich

Depends on how recent the experience was, but congrats on keeping a clean driving record.

Some companies want OTR experience because they want to know drivers aren't going to get home sick after 2 days...things like that

Some companies say they want OTR experience but don't really care if it was local or not

You want refrigerated, van, flatbed or what.
No problem finding OTR though. Either way, the companies will give you additional training.
Try Leavitt's Freight Service if you want flatbed.
Decker Truck Line has refrigerated and flatbed.
Watkins-Shepard is dry van and has 2 terminals in WA.
TWT Refrigerated Service runs Western states for solo drivers.

    Phi4life Thanks this.
