I would be surprised if that unit will transmit the nearly 70' we need it to, in getting from the back of the trailer to the cab. I tried another brand that used a different method - it generated a wi-fi spot, but it didn't reach quite far enough. You can only put it on the DOT bumper because the side of the trailer is aluminum if you pull a dry van or reefer. So, before buying you might want to check the assured range. Chances are the unit is marketed for boat trailers, RVs, etc. not semi trucks. If I owned my own truck AND trailer, I'd wire one in for sure.
