I know when I get to orientation, they will run a back ground check. I had a misdemeanor about 8 years ago for underage drinking. I just had to pay a fine and that was that. Since than, I've been in the military and passes a United states postal service background check, and havent been in any other trouble since, no tickets, accidents, anything..but is it something I should let my recruiter know before going? I checked no on the application for a felony, but it didnt say anything about misdemeanors. I just dont want to get up there and get sent home for it, or for them thinking I personally withheld information, ro anything like that if it shows up on the background check.
background check question

OK, I don't think you have much to worry about. They ask about felonies, and apparently you have none. If they ask about misdemeanors, by all means be straight with them.
You can bring it up, if it would make you feel better, but I don't recommend it. So you drank a bit, when you were underage and got busted. So what?
Man nobody is totally completely without a past, and employers don't expect it. Never lie to your employer or perspective employer. But you don't have to tell them about every little thing that has happened to you. And yes, relatively speaking, this is a little thing.
If that really is all it was. Now if it went further than that, well, that could be a different story. Only you know for sure.
Of course, if you actually HAVE a drinking problem, then that is a different story altogether.
Good luck.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
Thanks for the quick response. It was nothing more. I was sitting in my car waiting for a buddy to come pick me up from the bowling alley when I was 19. I had it running since it was the middle of summer, it was late, a cop pulled up and said I looked suspicious ( I was falling asleep) so I got caught. All they did was put me in the holding tank, and had me pay a fine. Like I said, I've been in the military since, and I wasnt worried about the actual misdemeanor, especially since it is a minor one compared to all the other different things that it could be, and I figured if the military would allow me in with it on my record, a trucking company would, but wanted to make sure and make sure I didnt get in trouble for with holding information or anything, and it cost me a job for something that happened when I was young and dumb.

It's very easy. Answer only what they ask. Do not give them any information that may harm you unnecessary. Never lie and be truthful, but stick to the questions.
