Ya you do have to be careful with the CDL mills. Some will just take your money no matter what and tell you that you will have no problem in getting hired on with a company. I would say that most Community Colleges are a little more trustworthy than the normal CDL mills though. Your best bet is to call around to the different companies before hand and talk to their recruiters to see what they have to say about your record and whether or not you will be hireable with their company.

i went to c1 in indianapolis because they guaranteed a job with one of 3 companies (usa truck, roehl, or pam, your choice) upon graduation. it was quite a bus ride, but i went there because id heard stories of people not being able to find a job upon completion of local trucking school. so the answer is...it depends. id look for a similar deal, or not give them my money.

you got dwi's or somethin?

OP, you would be well advised to be aware of what is on your record, and the criteria that the companies you hope to work for may use. Going to school and getting your CDL isn't going to do you much good if you've got big red flags in your past (at least the last few years) and no company will touch you.

If you have felonies, there are a few companies that will hire you after aquiring a CDL ; just be upfront about it.
Carolina Cargo
Western Express
Paschall Truck Lines
Buel Inc.
Gray Transportation -
When I went to school they asked me questions about my background and told me what could keep me from being hired at a company.
They did not perform a background check, however.
If you know of things that might be bad for you it is better to ask at the school BEFORE you sign the contract. -
wow...how was i the only one that didnt see the real question? now i feel stupid.

Background checks will look for driving and criminal records. Most companies want 3 or fewer accidents and moving violations in the previous three years. Less than that you should be good. Criminal wise, I assume its a company choice so if you have convictions, call potential company choices beforehand.
