Wow, this just might be the most ridiculous post of the week.
Just LEARN how to do it, and it will cost you nothing at all. People drive these rigs every_darn_day without an issue, yet YOU want to start drilling and cutting metal for some hare-brained kludge fix?
What types of compression forces do you think those bars you add are going to have on a loaded rigs frame? Sounds like extra welding might be needed. Then there is all the added time and hassle of having to connect these "training wheels" every_single_time you back up, then put them away?
So, learn the technique and spend 15 seconds backing, or remain an ignoramus and spend 4-5 minutes each time you back up? Wow, you must be a GENIUS!!!!

    Rugerfan Thanks this.

one point of articulation is enough for me, I'm not backing doubles. But as a know it all supertrucker you could post a video of you doing with you holding a piece of paper with "ex-trucker Alex" and the date on it so we can all see how it is done. Always willing to learn from someone that walks the walk, not just talks the talk.

In fact if anybody wants to post a timestamped video of themselves backing doubles into a spot I'll be glad to admit I'm an idiot and will never be the trucker they are because the only thing i know about backing doubles is they say don't do it and I'm pretty sure that goes double with a fuel tanker.

I'm sure you can find lots of videos of people backing up a B-train, where the 2nd fifth wheel is rigidly held in line just like I described, but post those videos of you backing up an A-train configuration like the original poster is describing.

Simple rule I think works here.

    1 trailer, right = left
    2 trailers, right = right
3 trailers, see 1 trailer instructions

It’s not doubles. It’s a truck/trailer set up. People back them up all the time. They’ve been around since the 40’s or 50’s, people know how to drive them. Truck shows in California used to have backing competitions with truck/trailer hay trucks.

    Rugerfan and Siinman Thank this.

It’s not an A train, once you understand that you’ll understand it’s similar to backing a B train.

Edit: video of a cabover hay truck backing up you can watch on YouTube.

It’s not a set of doubles. It’s simply a truck and a trailer, with 2 articulation points.
