I haven't seen this in years..It's quite an art form really, especially when the driver is standing on the step while turning the wheel and backing in! I think it's becoming obsolete since many of the drivers from the era that did this are now retiring...Then again, pulling a tanker, I'm not near many loading docks anymore.

i see it often ...just watch one in a tight spot he wasn't an old guy.. he whip it right in ... i've been driving 22 years now never open the door to back up...

In this era where 90% of trucks are "wide bodies" without side stacks, there's not much need to.

My dad used to stand on the running board and back in. Always said he could go faster backwards than forward

And then there is the other 10%--LOL--and YES i do it all the time--don't have to--old habit--although IMHO--with a Long Hood--Long wheelbase and 53' trailer--it is safer and easier...but should learn how to do without it--cuz this ol man dont like gettin wet

I do it all the time. One of our drivers stands on the running board. I put the steering wheel all the way up and lean out a lot of times one foot ends up on the top step.

I forget about the switch to adjust the mirror sometimes, its easier to open the door at that time then say OH that's why after
