That is one reason why I posted that thread about my disgusting nasty employer! To poke fun at the people who whine, complain, & cry all the time about how bad they have it!

I enjoy my job & the people I meet along the way!

    Southernpride,

Keep on keeping on brother. You are a true testament to the American Spirit. whether that be in trucking or anything else. You have survived through it all and I imagine you will continue to do so. Some of us have a problem hijacking threads and myself my ADD kicks in and I tend to go who knows where but let me say that I respect you and your posts and enjoy reading them regardless of spelling or grammar. I have read a lot of very useful information that you have posted and that many of the newbies could greatly benefit from if they heed your advice. If I have offended you it was not my intention nor do I think it was anyone else's intentions.

The best to you and yours.

Try switching to a more liberal station. The on-air personalities will be vastly more articulate.(And more intelligent too) LOL!

KPIG is at 96.7 in Chico/Paradise.

I've listened to KPIG a couple of times....I've heard little to suggest that anyone there is more articulate than any other "on air" personality.

Yeah...You'd better laugh when you say that...They're just a bunch of clueless libs![/QUOTE]

    Southernpride,
You sir, are one of many prime examples of entrepreneurs who made this country great.

It is very unfortunate Americans in general have been conditioned to believe you have to be a member of lucky sperm club and/or have college education to live a good life. This kind of pathetic mentality is part of what got us into the mess we are currently in, with full-blown assult on economic freedom from our very own government.

Although I cannot deny that it is much harder to get your own gig started today than in 1958, I believe it is still possible to become successful in this country regardless of things like gender, race, age, education level, socioeconomic status, etc. It's easier for some than others, but anybody have a shot at becoming successful with commitment, hard work, and a little bit of luck.

I congratulate your success, and I hope to be able to tell similar stories to future new comers when I become considered as an old timer.

    Mr. 550hpW900L,

You are right - trucking might be a road to wealth, and it might not be. You just never know.

I understand your comments are coming from you looking out for others, and knowing the ugly side of the business is just as important. So information is appreciated.

But I don't think there's nothing wrong with giving high hopes and dreams to aspiring O/Os. If I didn't have any expectations, I'm guaranteed not to have any subsequent disappointment. But at the same time, my life wouldn't go anywhere.

Any reward worth having always comes with a risk, and it never comes easily. It applies to every aspect of our lives, not just trucking industry. Having lived 36+ years of ups and downs, I understand this law of universe quite well.

I don't disagree this may not be the best time to become an O/O. But I believe I prepared myself enough to take on the risk. The level of preparation may not be the same as yours, as each individual has different level of risk tolerance.

The ultimate hedge against a failure would be to wait and drive a company truck until you have enough cash to buy a new tractor/trailer plus enough reserve for a few months' expense. Even then, you could still fail if you don't do things right, and I'd probably be dead twice by the time I save that kind of money driving for someone else. As I said, I've prepared enough to satisfy my own risk tolerance - now is just as good a time as any, and I'm tired of waiting to have the freedom you O/Os enjoy.

So let me take the risk. Information, positive or negative, is appreciated, but please don't try to talk me out of it. If I indeed failed, you'll get to say "I told you so".

And you know what? I'd be OK with that - it wouldn't be the first time I fail spectacularly and I'd learn something from it, albeit the hard way. I wouldn't blame my failure for anybody but myself, and I'd try to do a better job the next time around.

But on the other hand, I just might make it the first time. You never know. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

ok i am new to posting on this site. i want to simply state that there are many folks on here that impress me and many that really just like to hear themselves talk. i am currently in afghanistan and will tell you that when my time in the army comes to an end i WILL be going into the trucking industry. people like Southern Pride and many other older drivers on this site are the ones we should get the wisdom from prior to embarking on certain adventures. i am sure there will be many that come back and say that trucking is not good to get into. well to those i say without risk there is no reward. people may not hear about it everyday but where i am currently at godd men and women take risks every day so it kind of becomes second nature. to everyone who may have a problem with my post please understand that you have the freedom of speach based on my actions. and i anyone feels this is off topic i apologize as i simply intended to make it known that some people still have respect for the older wiser ones out there.
