In IN on 65 at exit 240, behind the J. Middle door of the Bosselmans. Really quality work. He's the guy who trained the other guys up by Chicago.

My galaxy 99V is way clearer than before. Tested my texas star 500 for free (curious if it still worked - it does, and apparently, very well)

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

You sound like you're traveling often near Marshall IL , the 1st exit in IL leaving Indiana on I-70 , exit go left over to the south side of interstate , and see Terry "Dubs" radio shop , been dealing solely with him since about 2009 , good guy & knowledgeable. You can look him up on the web.

I have pictures of what the waveform will look like on an oscilloscope after Terry gets done hacking up your radio if anybody's interested in seeing those pictures.

Above was "tuned" by "dub" himself...

This Is the same radio after 4 hours of work after Dubs customer had Fine Tune do the job correctly. Needless to say he is much happier now and wont be allowing "Dub aka Terry" to touch any more of his equipment.

I sent those pictures to Terry himself via Facebook and here is his response.....

Hi Scott,I see the differance on the scope, the only thing I dont understand is why anyone would run a radio so high on mic gain that it would be over modulated like that. Kinda like driving a big truck with open governor, your not going to run 100 mile an hour all the time. or it can be like your a company driver and we'll just govern your truck to 62mph so when your on th highway ( just hold it to the floor) because the operator is to stuip to operate the euipment responsibily. How can a radio be over modulated if the mic gain is turned down, and we have no modulation. I guess i like to ofer my customers options as radio operators, such as being able to run a lower dead key and still have more modulated swing when chosing to run a amp.Anyway glade your happy now with the tune of your radio. Have a great day. DUB

Here is something else that he sent me......

Scot, what I like to do with every radio I sell or tune is give everyone a lesson on how to operate their radio. It is called "My Bogus Hunting Story With A Five Gallon Bucket." It's an illustrative story about how carrier displaces audio. Without going into the story, a good way to set mic gain on a radio without a mod limiter is to turn the mic gain wide open, hold a good noise cancelling mic 3-4 inches from your mouth and watch the meter swing. If it swings while looking at the meter, while talking in a normal voice, start turning the mic gain down until there is no swing. This helps set the system gain and when you get the mic close to your mouth you have good clear audio and will not pick up back ground noise, only the sound of your voice. Therefore, you would never run the mic gain wide open. I feel this set up gives us better audio without running mic gain wide open because we will not be picking up any bacground noises louder than our voice at three to four inches away. Another benefit would be to not let the mod limiter shut the radio down when coming from your voice. Instead you are controlling it with the reistance you have set with the mic gain circuit. If all we use is the mod limiter when we are keyed up, the modulation is wide open and would have a tendency to pick up background noise and would only get rid of the noise when the limiter kicks in, if it is as loud as your voice. Once mic gain is set, I recommend to my customer to increase power control up to clean up the carrier when close up and turn it down when they are in the distance and you want more pertcentage of audio. One of the things I like about our job and our shop is that we give distance radio check and it is common to hear radios with good antenna systems 30-35 miles away because of loud clear audio; even though their is not much carrier. Different strokes for different folks. Thanks alot Scot. DUB

Again use his services at your own risk......

My response to "Dub" was that most truck drivers do not have the luxury of having an oscilloscope sitting on the dashboard of their truck so they can monitor their station and make necessary adjustments let alone have the knowledge necessary to understand how to use that test equipment. I would prefer to have an idiot proof station as I'm driving down the highway so I don't have to worry about making critical adjustments and taking my eyes off the road endangering other people's lives.

Seems you 2 have a difference of opinions , I myself know you are not falsifying any of this , because you know the bucket story LOL , at the same time , I don't have any complaints whatsoever 4 yrs running 38 to 42 % mic gain , and receive nothing but compliments without touching any thing other than the on and off switch. Terry does have a point sir , what do you gain by running your radio wide open as you're talking to a guy a mile from you for 30 minutes as you both head east bound ? Or talking to other drivers in a truck stop. I can run that 40% mic and talk to a base station at the 47mm on 70 in Indiana down to about the 30 mm at 5pm and he says it's doing wonderful . As I said else where here , about the Connex 3300 and the 497hpc , If I had both I'd keep both but my preference would be the 497hpc , it gets endless compliments at 40% mic gain and that's talking when conditions are right to the big dogs half way across our great nation. Some days the skip is endless good luck in trying to get a word in , other days you can sweep 40 channel and hear nuttin. I have no issue with Dubs , we all don't have to see eye to eye , as he said to each his own.

I just wonder if I took my SR497 , to Fine Tune , and he set it up so the oscilloscope was picture perfect , would that mean that it would sound a lot better. I ask because almost daily , I'm told that radio sounds fantastic . Often guys say they can only hope theirs sounds 80% of what mine does. I been told by guys with Connex 3300's , don't change a thing on that radio, it's how it should be, clarity and power without the overpowered impression but enough to do the job and then some.
