But why would telling a new guy every bad thing in the industry prevent them from being a statistic? That is my very question.. I'm trying to figure out the reasoning behind the "know it all" attitude I see.. Many times I have seen drivers snickering at the new guy for being an "idiot" to me the idiot is the guy snickering at the new guy who seems to have forgotten he himself was new at one time.

These guys who clown on the newbies are the same guys who have other issues going on in their lives. Bad home life, wife banging the milkman or maybe he was picked on as a younger kid and now that he has seniority in this industry, he feels he has the right to be an a-hole, or just simply call it insecurity. I have studied psychology and been a people watcher most of my life, sometimes people just have to have an attitude. You will never know where it stems from but all you can do is ignore it. Most reasonably smart person knows the difference between whining and being a prick and just being straight forward without all the attitude. -
Nah Batman, I'm not talking about you specifically I'm just saying those that act the way I stated.. It's not just trucking where this happens either.. it's all over the place.. I just think as drivers, everyone should help each other out.. and yes batman, if you have good information to share with newbies then that is great however it's those that don't and just want to post BS that almost appears to just SCARE the new guy away from even stepping into this industry.. but to be honest I still want to know why those that feel so bad about trucking even do it to begin with..

Perhaps there were some crappy posts in that thread, but I didn't see it.
Here's a tip- the most brutal responses on an internet forum are tenfold easier than reallife trucking.
Id rather deal with an internet asswhole than a super nice DOT bear.fortycalglock and lonewolf4ad Thank this. -

I would agree on what thebatman is saying. The recruiters do glamorize what the industry is because like any recruiter, you get bonuses for meeting a certain number, just like any saleman. What Batman is saying is just giving these guys a reality check, as opposed to some of these guys being a d*ck about the industry. Its like constructive criticism. . . being a trucker isn't all sunshine and roses lol sadly the recruiters make it out like your gonna be pulling in bank your first years, if they were to be 100% honest, they would never get anyone to sign up...they have to blow a little smoke up your ### to get you signed up. So hearing how the industry really is from the horses mouth (metaphorically speaking) is good in my eyes. I have found out more about the industry int he last few weeks, and the leasing and what goes into it, about certain companies as well, but we are all adults, we have to utilize a certain level of common sense and ignore those who are just trying to be a prick also.

Come on dont you guys know that we are supposed to sugarcoat everything for these kids today? If not, you run the risk of hurting their little feelings. Dont tell them about the real work involved, they wont even consider getting their CDL if they learn that there is a chance they will break a nail, or get a little grease on their $150 tennis shoes!
