Yep, that's what happened. I moved to another state, went to get my license there and balked at the fee. Didn't think I would ever need it again, but wishing now I had kept it.

For what it's worth, I did pretty much that, except with a conventional. I am paying $450 per year for full coverage insurance. That's less than my car.

Now, that's non-commercial insurance. I cannot haul freight. But for my hobby use it's excellent. I can tell you the company, but PM me for that if you're interested -- I believe it's against forum rules to post referrals here.

Your so-called high level experience means nothing when you've been away for 6 moths or so. On paper you're a student coming to work with a speeding ticket 16mph over, which is bad. That's the way it works when people depend on recruiters for work. If I were you I would download a list of trucking companies in your area and go out and see them. Let them place a face to the application and you'll have a much better chance. Besides, everyone goes the recruiter way and all they do is place drivers at the big companies that can't keep drivers for more than a couple of years.

Not all small local companies are bad and there are some that are better than you could imagine. Some realize that once they have you trained you become a asset to them and they want to keep you if you're a good worker. And some even have drivers that retire from them. But the only way you're going to find out is if you go out and look person to person.

BTW, I'd drop the experience with racing and just use the 10 years of clean truck driving unless they ask. If you don't have your CDL then you'll have a harder time then if you did have one. Either way most likely you'll have to go back to school. Stop blaming others for your ticket and just explain you got it. Once you feel that you might have a chance at a company then you'll have to do whatever they require with open ears, eyes, and a closed month. Good luck and you can find the job but you might have to put some time in to get there. You never know you just might come out with a great job.
