The AM Best truckstop in Mocksville, NC north of I40 on US601 got bought out by TA. theyre closing the restaurant tomorrow at 0700. This was normally where I would stop when I loaded excavators out of Kernersville. The food was good. No word when they will have the transition completed. I hope they at least put a restaurant in where I can eat with a fork.
This was one of those spots where you could always find a parking space for the biggest of loads. Now there will be more doorslammers. Oh well, at least it isn't going to be a freakin Loves or Peelot.
Bad news for the HH Brethren.

Really hate to see it go.

Haven't been there in several years, but used to run through there pretty frequently.

Note to the casual observer: when pulling the bigger loads, there are places that the HH people avoid, and there are places that the HH gang flock to. Places like the Loves, Peelot and the FishHook you eventually avoid because the parking spaces are too skinny, it's too hard to get in and out of, or the bottom feeders use it as an authorized fuel stop. Then you have to deal with some bottom feeder truck taking your hood off, or smashing into the side of your load because some student is being trained to back by his godlike trainer whose only been driving for 6 months himself. Idiots.
Whats worse is this AM Best is in North Carolina, one of those shorter running day states with no Sunday travel for the OSOW crowds. We would have to hammer down to get to a place like this and sit for the weekend. Full service truckstop with a big parking lot, less bottom feeders, good independent mechanics shop and truck wash and GOOD FOOD.
They normally route the big loads across interstate 40, down 77 and then to 85 or up 77 to 64. So between Mebane,NC and Wytheville,VA or BlackburgSC this was the best place to stop, especially if you had to sit the weekend.dogcatcher and sewerman Thank this.
