I was working in the health care field when I got laid off. My prior employeer is giving me a bad refrence( Just my opinion, Can't prove it), and I couldn't find work in my field. I wonder how this will affect my job search when I get out of trucking school?

I've had friends that had the same issue...Don't use the previous employer as a reference, use vendors, patients and co-workers, people that you interacted with instead or along with...If a new employer won't look at whole picture, do you really want to work for them?

I have to put them on an application because I worked there for 3 years. I just wonder if a trucking company will look more at my skills behind the wheel, or will a bad refrence from an employeer in my old field carry a lot of weight. No I didn't screw up a patient or anything like that, my prior supervisor, and I didn't see eye to eye on several issues, and she is a very vendictive person.

i will give yo the address to a website, where for a fee, they will send out for references from past employers. if they get bad references from any of them, you can take them to court, as this company goes to court with you to sue them....

They can say if they would hire the person back if asked. That carries some weight there if the company is making close decisions. This is precisely why I say go face to face if you can. The employer has nothing to go by if just looking at a job application. If you could explain your situation in person don't you think you'd have a better chance?

Example of how to handle this - I busted my general manager (car biz) for embezzlement when I was a finance guy... at the same time, I as getting ready to move back home to Texas, and knew that he'd be fielding questions about me during the brief time before the investigation was done (he did jail time)...
I REALLY needed a good reference and a job right away, so I took him out of the loop - I used my sales manager as my employer reference and gave out his cell number instead of the store's number. He got the call, gave the reference, and eliminated the possibility for the GM to screw me up for catching him and get some payback.
