Yes, crossdock,,that's it... If your referring to your 2001, I don't think so but, I am not 100% sure. I just know that eventually it won't be and only ones that will are trucks with DPF and DEF so, we should start pitching in for a crossdock...lol

Can you imagine the size of a crossdock facility? With the amount of freight that moves in and out of just No. Ca., it would have to be the size of Reno and Sparks combined. Not to mention the misshipments to the wrong companies. Another thing would to damage to product. The more an item is handled, the greater the possibility for damage. Another question would who would be responsible for the damage/ shortage? IMO, Just to many veribles to make that work.

Well since I live in Cali and plan to still call it home base I included CARB compliance in my business model.

Kinda like the age old saying: adapt or parish.

Should it be in everyone's model? Only if you do enough non-cheap freight to make it worth while.

I agree with everything except, "too many variable to make that work". I would think that multiple crossdocks would have to be used and I am sure, there are many all around CA that are already built or being used. I am not sure who would start this, or be in charge of it but, maybe the small fleet or single truck O/O could find a crossdock that would work for this and set up a contract. Just a thought is all..

See? There is the problem. They are in Cali., and non-compliant trucks wouldn't be able to get to or use them. The crossdocks would have to be outside Ca. for it to work for the non-complaint trucks. I see no way for something on that kind of scale to work. Just the amount of Dispatchers would be crazy large, then dock personnel on top of that. I may be short sighted, but I don't see anyone, Government or private industry, that could manage the amount of freight that would move across the docks.

There are quite a few ways to get in and out of CA without retrofitting or upgrading your truck. First of all, you can get a good faith extension based on your plans to retrofit your truck or by providing proof that your loan for a new/used truck got denied. This gives you 6 months. Next you can apply for the 5k year extension! <<< this has already been approved. You can call CARB and verify this! Hang on for few meer weeks and things will change. When lawsuits from indivdual states start flying towards CA for hindering trade/commerce laws, things will change!

The best advice I can give is, go to a dealer and apply for a loan for a brand new truck and a brand new trailer. Tell them you have 0$$$ to put down and get that rejection letter and run for 6 more months. This has become a cat mouse game with CA.

    Good Luck guys!

I'm not worried about it, because my truck is complaint. It's the other 20 plus states that have expressed a big interest in what happens in Ca. If, and it is a big if at the moment, This CARB crap does get pushed thru, there are the other states that are going to jump on the band wagon along with Ca. So what is everyone going to do then? I think a lot of people will be out of business by that time, but for those who hang on to that point, what are they going to do? Sit back and look at the big picture, the entire left coast follows what Ca. does, especially when it come to the enviroment. I can almost already see Or., WA., AZ.,and Nevada writing the papers to start up their ARB's. Lets face the fact that sooner or later, the whole country with have the same restrictions. As far as "getting around CARB", extentions and loan papers are only good for so long. As far as the 5k a year exemption, the way I understand that, is your total mileage on your truck cannot be more than 5k, and not more that 1k in Ca. This may have changed since I last read the CARB page on compliance. All in all, the trucking industry is going to comply, like it or not, we will not have a choice. It will come down to comply, or park it.

The 5000 mile a year exemption is only for trucks that run 5000 miles a year total. For purposes of OTR trucks the exemption is 1000 miles within California. This was verified by CARB. Also this low use exemption only applies to the truck itself, box type trailers are not under low use exemption rule. And another thing is the three day pass you can apply for is only once per year for one truck per fleet.

They have their bases covered, if they catch you they have numerous ways of fining you.

Probably 25% of my freight is in and out of Ca. I can't afford to lose the customers that I have worked hard to get to someone else. I don't know of anyone out there that can lose 25% and still stay in business. I haul to Ca. for one customer, out of Ca. to Or. or Wa. or sometimes to Az. or NM. for another, then into my home area for the same customer. Just doesn't make sense to give it all up. I quit going to Ca., and I'd lose out on the rest of my work, not smart IMO.

I cannot believe you are still harping on what CA does! Tell CA to piss off by ignoring the clowns.

I did not register my truck and this year as well as last, I haven't been to CA. And you know how much it hurt my revenue? None!

Now if I bought a used emmissions truck or retrofited my '99; it would cost me enough in repairs and increased fuel consumption to put me in the red. I've run the forecast numbers, trust me it ain't worth doing it that way. Either buy a new truck with cash, or go home.
