Bad start to a new year

    The point at which that happens you guinea pigs have already shouldered the big cost burdens. I have none of the western states on my IRP anyways so it doesn't bother me. It will be a long time before that lunacy is considered in SE and Midwest.

    While I agree with you rollin, I think those of us in this more rational section of the country need to still position ourselves just in case. While I think it's unlikely but not out of the realm of possibility that we will be forced to buy new equipment in ten years.

    I don't disagree with that but at that point the bugs should be worked out and the cost burdens won't be as bad. Anecdotally SCR is miles ahead of the old egr only or egr/dpf experimental junk that cost this industry who knows what. The early forcefully coerced adopters subsidized improvements for those of us able to sit on the fence so to speak.

    rollin coal, it sounds like you have no intention of running on the left cost anyway, as I have no intention of running back east. been there, done that, never lost anything back there, and if I did , I've forgotten about it, and it's not important enough for me to try and find it. I was just stating a fact about what is coming down the pike. I elected to buy a complaint truck, 1 with out DEF, and just DPF, and EGR. Yes, I have lost fuel MPG, but I will gain business, as my competitors can't get the financing to upgrade trucks. So with me already upgraded, I'll be able to pick the freight that they can't because of non-compliant trucks. There is a small group of people doing what I do, and most have ###### for credit rating, and can't finance a pot to pee in, let alone a truck. I'm IRP'ed for Mississippi River west, and that's all the farther east I will go.

    I think you've got another thing coming if you think high costs, poor credit, and people allegedly not able to remain compliant is going to thin the herd. You might benefit temporarily but the trucks always go where the money is - it won't last. I could go out and buy a 120" flatscreen for $40,000 tomorrow or I can wait a few years and get one for a twentieth of the cost. Operations running compliant on the west coast beta testing new emissions equipment paid a high price in downtime for the rest of us who get in later. I'm not saying $150,000 trucks are going to be cheaper but in a few years time that is the new norm, we have adjusted, and the kinks should be largely gone.

    I agree, that is why I bought a used, fleet maintained truck. I got all the records for this truck, and was able to take my pick of 10 units. I chose the 1 with the lowest mileage, and had had the EGR, and Cooler replaced. I also bought the extended warranty on these, and the DFP. As far as the other people in my area, They will be hauling the cheap stuff, because they can't haul the higher rate paying loads because they can't go there. It has already started, but as you say it might not last more than a few years at most. By the time these other guys can find a truck theycan comply with, I'll be ready to retire, so I won't give a ###### any more!

    I don't see it affecting rates in anything but extremely specialized niche markets. Large carriers already have compliant equipment so there will be very little if any, drop in supply of trucks out west

    That what I'm hauling in, is a specialized market, guys with flatbeds and drop decks can't haul what I haul. So I've got kind of an ace in the hole.

    Wow looks like i just became a small fleet talked to joe rojykovaz since i got a compliant truck before end of year now both my trucks are legal til the end of the year....californias rules are wacked,,,,,anyone looking for a job lol
