Ok, so little about my background last fall I acquired my CDL-A at NETTT's north Andover mass. I don't have that much work history and it had taken a bit of time to find a company to hire me, I eventually did.. not going to say which one lets just say it was one of the mega's. Now I have a good background other than work history (not that I've been fired but just non existent for some years), you know no criminal record no points on my driving, etc.

However unfortunate outcome with the company I was driving for I got into a minor accident and terminated. I'm a little bit angry at how they handled it, after the accident I headed back to the terminal and they said they would have me do a little bit more training and it will be fine get me back out on the road soon. I was assured and even talked to my DM and the safety manager. I had previously before the accident arranged some home time because of a bad cavity that I needed dental work done too. They had told me its fine they would route me home than route me back once I was done. So when the time came I got no calls from them so when I called them they said that they had decided to terminate me and to call so and so for more information because I was outright flabbergasted. They didn't even have the nerve to tell me to my face, let alone call, or email... And then they give me the loop around and the guy never got back to my messages they had told me to call...

Anyway I heard through the grapevine this company is notorious for giving bad references for people to leave to other companies even if on good terms. And with my recent applications to using them as a job reference I feel it might be hindering me from getting hired, but on the other hand I don't have any real other job references to use which is my dilemma.

Would I be better off just saying I'm a recent grad and basically start over again? Also, I only have 2 1/2 months experience. Or do I need to include this job I was terminated from as a reference and also because of background checks Trucking companies do?

Thank you for any advice, I feel as though I haven't given up on trucking but trucking has given up on me.

In many cases you can be too honest but not here. You have a record, one which cannot be hidden. It's a very easy check for a company.

I agree. . If it's a mega co.. They will report to DAC..list them and explain the circumstances. Good luck

Your career is not over my friend, don't worry about it so much. One minor accident doesn't end your career.

Well, then again I guess it depends on your definition of minor.

I've applied to many places.. but that could be more so the 1 year experience thing (a lot of places didn't put that as a requirement until I called and was told). I've been honest and told places upfront about the accident, but it's still going through court and I think I can get it lessened to a moving violation instead of careless which I was ticketed for. Since it is not officially on my record should I not mention it at all?

The fact that you worked for a company and you were fired is on your record. I'm telling you, there is no hiding this.

Yea I would just tell them what happened. They will either say its ok or its not? A lot of companies allow 1-2 DOT Reportables in the past 3 years, some even 3. If you don't tell, they will find out, then you will not be hired because you didn't tell them.

Put this company on your application and the reason why because the employer will find out.Sure they may disgualify your application but that doesn't mean your career is over.Just means another one bites the dust and apply elsewhere.Drivers get turned down all the time it goes with this profession.

What was the accident? I only ask because everyone in your situation always describes it as a "minor" accident. Thanks and good luck.

It was a tight area in new Jersey, Qualcomm navigation went out on me. When it rerouted it had me going down a street I realized I wouldn't make 2/3 rds of the way through. Backed up and my position was further over on my blindside than I thought ended up backing the rear tractor into the door of a parked car. Trailer didn't hit anything just the tractor swung out a bit too far. Keep in mind this was an area where I was literally driving down the center of the road because of the cars parked on either side of the street.
