I agree. I think it's the line between drivers who wear boots and the drivers who wear flip-flops. Me? Boots are uncomfortable and flip-flops are stupid, except in showers. Not sure where I stand yet.

Yeah. Finding a different route and letting the dispatcher know your intent to drive around it is, for me, is the best solution for this scenario. Let the DM know you're not driving I10 and then let them decide. This seems like what most are doing. Thanks.

Solid advice. An "educated gamble." Which it is, really. Drivers gots to drive. Get it there, and get it there fast and in one piece. Oh...and be safe, right? Some people plan, and others just go. I wish more would learn to plan just a little bit.

Heard. Thanks. I'm sure many here on this forum have lost a family member, friend, or colleague due to drivers taking risks they shouldn't. Check the road conditions BEOFRE you take that beast out there. Don't drive for the money. It's not worth it.

I'd like to also mention, there are quite a few drivers who can't read or write, much less speak English very well. This means they're less likely to check road conditions using websites and apps. Reading weather alerts and talking on the phone is not easy. I think more training is needed.

Scanner. Noted. I use Scanner Radio. I'm thinking these days, websites and apps are more reliable than a CB when you're at a truck stop. When or IF you "make an attempt", a CB might help when you're out there, right?

Communicate. I'm hearing this often and I completely agree.

Thanks. Good advice. Like I've heard, YOU command the ship.

This forum has been really helpful in teaching, confirming, and reminding me, and possibly other new drivers following, of points not discussed in the basics. When I begin training, I think I'll be more prepared to respect what I'm learning.

If it got to that point, I wouldn't drive. I'd go back to my berth, get a good sleep, wake up, pack my things, drive to a terminal, hand them my keys, and call an Uber to take me to the airport. Done.

It's funny federal law requires people to be fluent in English to operate a c.m.v in America. Somehow they keep getting licenses? I can tell from talking to you that you seem to have a good head on your shoulders you should be fine. Another piece of advice is to take your time! Your going to have days and moments where your nervous, pissed, confused and just flat out aggravated just always take your time and make good decisions. Get experience and find yourself a niche market Tanker,Over size, Hazmat it's harder for the megas to grab a hold of that market and drive the wages down.

I just got a call from my dispatcher again, I’m shut down again for today and possibly for the next couple of days as well.

This kind of weather is so atypical for Texas that they’re overwhelmed with clearing up the roads. Lots of power outages as well, which isn’t good with the current outside temperature of 8° F (wind chill -8°).

    Flankenfurter and Road-house Thank this.
