Sure wish I had a woman in my life. Life would be much more fun. No. I'll have to do all my own planning. But I know the feeling and miss the caring. Having a partner like that is great, just not in the truck, if you know what I mean. You're a lucky man. I hope you let her know that.
Bad weather and trip planning. Impassable roads. What to do?

Just a minor update for you. Since we are currently dealing with this type of situation. Yesterday I risked the roads because it wasn't "too" icy in the AM and when I headed back to the truck stop from the receiver. (They wouldn't take my load early.) But when I was going to head back for the 2000 appointment the roads were too icy to travel. San Antonio, TX had actually closed most of the highways. So I called safety to weather shut down for the night. My company is concerned enough about their drivers that I got a call this morning to just check in on how I was doing. We actually had a few wrecks in our fleet yesterday. Because drivers didn't have the common sense to shut down.
Here is the one global piece of advice I can give. If you don't feel safe driving. DON'T!!!! As I said before. No load is worth ending up in the hospital or the morgue.nredfor88, God prefers Diesels, tarmadilo and 1 other person Thank this. -
You mentioned you called Safety. Is that protocol at your company? Wouldn't your DM handle this? -
Honestly I probably could have called dispatch. But better to be safe and go right to safety. While the DMs "typically" are going to lean to the safe side vs the move the freight side. It is easiest to go right to safety. They'll flag you as weather shut down till you call and tell them you are ready to roll. So in this case it is the path of least resistance and not out of protocol.

San Antonio was a complete #### show yesterday. Took me like six hours to get across it. Going down 281, all my exits were closed. Was able to get on 1604 West, and then whip a U and get on 1604 East. Was about ten miles from my house when a semi must have spun out on 1604, tried to back out of it, and ended up sideways in the road. People had to get in the grass to pass him. So, I had to find a new route via the wife. 87 to Pittman, and back to 1604 ahead of the truck. Holy smokes it was slick. I had chains on my rear driver, and a drag chain on the trailer. After all this weather, driving from Vernal, UT through Colorado, through the Panhandle, and I finally had to chain up in South freakin' Texas.
