    I currently have a Baldwin BF1259 primary filter/water separator.
I am looking for a replacement filter number that doesnt have this
separator in it. How do I go about figuring that out?

Truck parts stores and shops have an interchange book with all specs and can match up what you need quickly.

I am confused by the question & the response. if you cross reference the filter, any truck store or dealer will just give you another brand, but it will look & perform the same. looking for a filter that does not have a separator in it?:biggrin_25523:

do you want to eliminate the water/fuel separator & replace with a conventional fuel filter system?

BF970, it has the same threads but be sure to put an oring at the base like the 1259 has.

When I bought the truck, it didnt have a water/fuel unit on it. The dealer told me it should have one. I contacted the prior owner to ask...

He told me he took that off due to cost and the fact that the drain valve on an older filter he had started leaking. He told me if you have that much water in your fuel, you have other issues.

So, he started using a basic filter and would change it often for 1/2 the cost of that water/fuel separator. That made sense to me.
For now, I have the proper filter on there but its almost $20 compared to a basic $8 one. That can add up quickly.

I .C. I have the davco 382 fuel/water seperator it was put on my truck when new.it uses only one filter cost. $6.00 all the other ser 60 det without the davco usues 2 filters. they cost more. also on the davco you can actually see when to change the filter thru the sight glass so your never changing too soon or too late. plus it also has a drain valve so you can see if there is any water present.

I would not even think about putting a filter that was not a water seperator. 20 bucks for the right filter I would change it every oil change! I have 3 fuel filters on my truck all of them are about 20 bucks or more change them all every oil change. I've never changed an injector or had any sort of fuel trouble.

If you think that $12 difference of running a filter instead of a water separator/filter can add up quickly, wait until a shop hands you a bill for the R & R of 6 injectors due to water damaged tips. :biggrin_2555:

I am in the process of converting from the Cat #256-8753 ($23/per) to the larger capacity, better flow rate of the Cat #326-1643. At this time have been unable to find another brand filter/ws to substitute the pricey Cat w/s, but even at $47/per, it's still cheaper than a day in the shop getting new injectors.

If anything , to save money on filters, you could install a trash seperator/ water trap bowl inline before the filter that doesn't require a flter element, or possibly one with a cleanable screen that you can see so you can tell when you need to pop it out and drain and and clean it to extend you main filter life, and that way you can catch the lions share of teh crud and water before it ever reaches your main filter , so you will not be spending the big bucks on filter changes.
