Barr-Nunn is not a professionally operated trucking company in regards to driver treatment which is why they will never make the list for “Top 20 companies to drive for”. The company have decals on their trucks claiming that they are an “Independently verifiable top paying truck company” this is false. Proof of this can be found nowhere on the internet and we all know the internet is vast. As a matter of fact no fact checking site will confirm this. During times when our recruiting efforts struggles and while simultaneously losing drivers due to poor pay, poor home time performance and driver misstreatment the company always post on their website or advertise in trucking magazines false information about earning potentials of $75k to $89k per year. Needless to say anyone duped by these inflated posting winds up at Barr-nunn and after about 2 - 6 months wish they hadn’t.
If you are from the southeast once hired the first thing the company does is route you to the northeast where you spend 92% of your time hauling 200 - 150 mile loads. You will get this everyday until you complain and the moment you complain all hell will break loose. You will suddenly find yourself sitting a lot, well you were already sitting with those 200-150 mile loads anyway, but it will actually get worse. Most of the loads the company hauls is for UPS, you will realize this real fast because you will feel like you are a dedicated UPS driver. The company use to have a contract with Amazon but after losing a lot of drivers due to Amazon always cancelling loads when i drivers shows up for pickup and in addition to demanding lower rates from Barr-Nunn the company ended up losing the contract.
Barr-Nunn logistic department is well adept at playing mind games with their drivers. If you are smart you will see the patherns. What kind of patterns? Patterns associated with immediate milage reductions when you have any confrontational encounters with anyone about anything they dont like. The moment you say “no” to them about something or anything to that matter that can be substituteded for a “no” be prepared for retalitation. The retalitation most of the time occurs when you return to work from hometime. It rarely occurs the same week you are heading home because they are concern you will guit once you get to your home location terminal and that particular terminal maybe a terminal they prefer not to have unassigned trucks sitting around.
The company dosen’t honor any two weeks notices from drivers they are not fond of so if you decided to quit never announce it when far away from home. If for whatever reason you still feel compelled to tell them you quit while still on the road because i guess of so much pent up anger tell them you want a load heading straight to your home location terminal and nowhere else. If you fail to do this they will route you to a terminal that’s the most convenient for them, release you there, and tell you you will have to find and pay your own way home. The only way you will be able to recoupe this travel expense is via litigation which i am 100% certain you will win. If you take the litigation route dont just sue for travel expense only.
For the most part your team leaders are usually nice but really it’s the planners that run the show with all the support in the world from the operation manager. The planners will either make or break you. None of the planners are nice people, they have to deal with a certain degree of pressure everyday to make sure loads are covered and literally have the mannerism of zombies. When you refused a load it better be for a defendable reason, such as estimated significant delays to your hometime, family, medical emergencies etc. When you submit your hometime you better have some other proof of your submittal other than what is sent on your qualcom otherwise they will claim their system shows no hometime.
I would discourage all minorities not to come here since all the planners whom are fully backed up by the operation manager have serious racial biases. Your earning will be suppressed because they profusely hate to see minorities make too much money. A few times you may have to speak with the operation manager over the phone whom will appear to be a very professional pleasant sounding person. Well trust me when i say this, “ he is not!”. It’s 100% pretentious. Minorities hired at Barr-Nunn are simple a byproduct of the so called driver shortages that are plaguing the industry.
The company steals a lot of money from all their drivers by not correctly calculating and paying drivers for all miles driven that facilitates the pickup and delivery of a load. Have you ever noticed how the mileage changes for a load you picked up a week ago from a repeat of the same exact load in your current week. Have you ever wonder why when in a big city you received zero mileage pay after driving 10-18 miles to pick up a load when both your starting and pickup locations are in the same city. Have you ever wonder why the company doesn’t pay you for the time and mileage it requires to take a truck to a specific truck shop, truck maintenance facility, terminal, etc to have its A or B maintenance performed. Have you ever wonder why your usage of your PTO’s affects your vacation time. Shouldn’t they be saparate? Have you ever wonder why when the company ask you to do a yard check you received no compensation.
Note to Barr-Nunn: This posting will be distributed to all drivers encountered and placed in as many truck stops as possible as long as the companies unprofessional and unethical business practices continues.
Barr-Nunn-not professionally operated in regards to driver treatment.

While I'm not claiming to have personal experience with Barr Nunn, I would have to say that your post raises more questions than answers considering you said you "could not find proof on the internet" and I found proof within milliseconds. There are certainly quite a few drivers who are quite happy there.McUzi, WesternPlains and shotgunangel Thank this. -
He is referring to this supposed "top pay carrier" award. Lots of companies claim it. Most are members of the TCA and have bogus awards such as this.
Barr-Nunn was purchased by Knight 4 years ago. It is run independently as far as I have heard.
12 years ago I made ok money for them running a dedicated Walmart account in Pa. I left when they decided hometime was at their wish not mine. I gave two weeks notice and never veered from the statement I would return their truck in Charlotte where I had done indoc. They tried to not honor that, but I did not give them any other option.Never saw any racial bias.
Dispatch is run by planners. They do not consider hometime a necessary thing. Any time they deem convenient is what you will get.dunchues Thanks this. -
Sounds like any other garbage carrier
That wants to run the northeast.

Sounds like somebody had a bad experience. No company is perfect, we ALL know that. What’s good for one driver at a company may not be good for the next guy. With over 13 years experience, I started with barr nunn 4 weeks ago, and love it. 5+ years exp w no hazmat, at .59cpm base. It’s been almost entirely drop & hook. I’m in the “northeast” division but I’ve already been to places like Atlanta & Charlotte. Tomorrow’s paycheck will have my first $600 CSA bonus on it. I’ll post a pic of my paystub for tmrw. This was for a week that ran from 9am Monday to 5pm Friday....

Thats not a bad check.
Keep in mind I am accustomed to 600 net weekly. But if I am taking home twice that I am not complaining each week.
As far as the OP is concerned The NE problem is solved with two expected thoughts.
1- Going to the NE with this load assignment...
Nyet.
2- ... paying 200 miles"
Nein.
3- Do you have a problem Drivah!?
Not me, it's you who is failing to assign adequate long hauls say 2000 miles and over. IF they want a driver and a big rig trucking load they will need to really make good trips planned out. That is where the money is. Not dabbling in a NE block party looking for docks that don't exist anymore.
The next 20 seconds of dispatch thought processing will decide if I will remain employed at such a company or not. It does not matter to me. We are either doing some good big time trucking or we go home having failed to do anything adequately profitable all the way around.
