Anyone have any experience with such a program? I mean I was shocked to find the program was 6 months (Sept to March) I mean im not saying thats bad but it seems like it will be a lot harder and more indepth then most 6 week trucking schools. This would probably be my only option for a truck driver school because I would have to use some grants that are available to pay for it..... or im off to a company training program.
-_- please ignore my spelling error in the title.... haha

Check DTS school on the trans-system website. It's a 160 hour school, which is all you need.

Since you're from Washington, you might consider Western Pacific Truck School (that's where I went). It can be expensive, but the overall cost is different if you pay all out of pocket, or you do a financing contract with them. I had to finance due to my money situation at the time. And some of the starter companies will pay your schooling off even it wasn't with that said company. Swift would have paid mine off if I had stayed with them. But back to the school...there are multiple sites. They had one in Olympia when I attended two years ago. Also sites in Seattle, Centralia, and Portland. I only had to train for 4 weeks with them. I finished on a friday and the following Tuesday I was at orientation. You shouldn't need 20 weeks. Bates would be better if you just wanted to work on diesel motors. It all depends on how quickly you need to get working. Just think, after the first 4 weeks at Bates you'll realize you could be working at 5 or 6 weeks (depending on where you apply to drive). But you'll be stuck in a school for another 16 weeks. Trust me, you should look for the 4 week course. You may be able to get financial help with a private school.
Also, another school just opened up off i5 exit 88 near Rochester. But that may not work out if you live closer to Tacoma. -
Might wanna check out CDS in Lakewood where i went. 160 hour courses (they have a 2nd school in Rochester), and you might be able to get tuition assistance from the city if money is a issue.

CDS, that's the one I was thinking of off exit 88. At the log house building site.

Wow, 20 weeks?!?! How much does it cost? First time I hear about such a long program

OP, ......and if you aren't already on the schedule to start class, which is this Monday, I understand the Winter Qtr is already full too.........so you'd be looking to start Spring Qtr(march?) at the earliest.
I deleted what else I wrote here......after reading further on the PTDI........

I've heard good stuff about CDS in Tacoma area.
simon sez Thanks this. -
I have as well!! Hard to get financing unless private though.... You get out of there with no strings attached, no contracts or any of that(unless, of course you sign with a company that'll pay it for you).
I took a tour down there iin Port Orchard and they have a nice looking set-up, everybody seemed happy and answered my questions, students included. You actually make a few runs out to Aberdeen fully loaded for some mill or something, or so I was told. If I had the cash on hand I would have my cdl-a already...months ago from there.
As it is, mines gonna be covered at Bates Tech...get this: I am on the list to start in March...and then five months of classes...but they are that booked; I couldn't quite get in the winter qtr. May end up doing something else before then, idk..........
I believe CDS is around 4800.....the way to go if you can!
Peace,

Check with the Wa. Unemployment office. My Daughter got them to fund a class with CDS in Port Orchard. She now has her class A, and the state paid for it. Dont know for sure how she did it, but its worth a look see.
