We have an 05 International (Cummins) that sounds SWEET. Really deep throat... Some guys that have been around a while say that the original driver put some D batteries down the stack and that's why it sounds so good.
I'm not a mechanic by any means, but it doesn't seem to me that this would affect the sound in that way. If anything I'd think this would cause some mechanical problems...
Any thoughts?

The batteries cook and the acid eats the baffles. So I am told.

Ahh, makes sense now...

I've heard about this, but I can't say definitively if it's true or not. But those batteries won't get back to the engine... if you get a chance to look at the underside of the truck sometime and follow the exhaust pipes, you'll see why this is.
As for the validity of the claim, I'll leave it to those who've dealt with this more to answer.fireman5523 Thanks this. -

While this will work to get rid of the baffles, so much easier to just buy a set of free flow mufflers. Walker makes a very good muffler, so does Pittsburgh power.

the new style alkaline batteries will not work. you need the old style the ones that ate up your flashlight they usually say heavy duty on them. in my opinion bad idea because it will eat the pipe up too. b safe out there
