My husband is trying to move my family to Texas to haul crude oil, what is the pay scale for this position, is Texas a good place to raise a family? Owner operators how do they find work? I am still on the fence about this move

Texas is a nice place to visit. that said I would probably move there if I could. I live in Ok. it's very similar weather is not real bad people are nice for the most part. Like anywhere there are good places and bad places anywhere you go ! I would say get work before moving though. I did it the other way once and it sucked BIG time.

West Texas is a wasteland, but there's plenty of work. Do what you need to do in this economy.

I drive a truck in the west Texas oil field. I live/work in an area of West Texas known as the Permian Basin, which is the Midland/Odessa/Big Spring area. This area is booming. Everywhere you look there are signs and advertisements saying "CDL DRIVERS NEEDED".
One of the biggest problems you're going to have is housing. Rent in Midland/Odessa is absolutely ridiculous. Absolute dumps are renting there for 800/1,000 a month and the crime is astounding, there is always something on the nightly news from over there. If I were you I would look for a house in or around Big Spring. Coahoma is not bad. It's a quiet town and it has a good school. Forsan also has a good school. In short, the work is here, especially for a guy with a clean CDL and . a current DOT physical. Do your homework, if your husband is willing to work, you can make a nice living out here.d o g Thanks this. -
I haul Crude Oil in East Texas, But there isnt much going on in this part of the state. You dont see drilling rigs like you did 5yrs ago. Most of the wells that are getting hauled is the wells in the woodbine zone "which is almost a 80 yr old field" around the kilgore area.

Texas has no personal income tax. Your husband can keep more of his paycheck in Texas.

Look I hear everyone talk about their areas me I did west Tx midland Odessa Hobbs I also done east Tx Tyler Shreveport area right now I'm in south Tx from Carrizo springs to corpus to Tilden to Houston and Gonzales let me explain a little of all of them.....
West Tx high cost of living, desert living water taste nasty. Work is great BUT it slows down from October to January.
East Tx there is a few going there nice area great scenery but very high traffic and work is ok. Cost of living is decent if Dallas is where u want to live
South Tx.. Its a monster here no slow down. Heck even holidays was busy also. Cost of living is high if you want to live in the middle of oil field but you also have cities like corpus Houston San Antonio Laredo Austin also. Not far from all the boom here. This is the area here if he wants to come down but let me warn you. Msa is important and rules south Tx is strict. That's maybe why it pays more than west Tx workers get -
erictx00,
What is Msa I'm also looking to relocate and I was looking towards corpus, as it's more like the current city l live in. Hope it not a dum question I only have six months oil experience -
