Good post Scooter, but I am a bit befuddled........IFTA is not a separate expense, but rather part of the fuel cost. I usually receive a tiny bit back each quarter because I purchase more fuel than I burn in states with higher state tax, because once the tax is subtracted the actual cost for fuel is less.
I do not run in Oregon anymore; is this quarterly IFTA expense unique to those who run in Oregon because of Oregon PUC (if I remember correctly I used to have to have a separate Oregon plate, and paid a mileage fee)? Or does his company charge him an administrative fee for tracking and filing IFTA?Broke Down 69 and mslashbar Thank this. -
Usually it's because one doesn't buy an equivalent to mpg amount of fuel while running in CA & WA.
Thinking you're saving money by purchasing fuel in OR (which doesn't include road tax) but in reality, those other states are going to get theirs one way or the other.
The OR PUC I listed is the weight mileage tax, which is up to almost $0.21 per mile now.Broke Down 69 and Oxbow Thank this. -
And yes, that should be in the variable section

I did not mean to contradict what you produced, just wondered about how Oregon affected the equation.
We see throughout this forum people talk about IFTA costs, and I wonder if folks understand that one must subtract that particular state's fuel tax from the total price in order to compare the actual cost of fuel between states.Broke Down 69 and Scooter Jones Thank this. -
My guess is less than 10% of O/s really understand the ins and outs of IFTA.

Planned on throwing the boot to it on this run to see where the milage would land but Mother Nature had other ideas. Woke up to a couple inches of fresh snow and I29 was...unplesant. So, I ran for milage all day, ran my 11 down to 3 minutes and parked in Atoka, Oklahoma 570 miles later with the dash showing 7.9. Nice to know i can wring near 8 mpg out of here with a 39k load on. Took my shower, had some dinner and now it's time to snooze.
More later...Airborne, Highway Sailor, bzinger and 3 others Thank this.
