A man was unknowingly struck and killed early Thursday morning by a tractor-trailer in a west Charlotte parking lot, police said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer pulled into the lot at the corner of Freedom Drive and Thrift Road around 5 a.m. after driving from Georgia, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Gary C. Davis, the 56-year-old driver, stopped there and went to sleep in the cab of the truck, waiting for a nearby business to open so he could make a delivery.

Police have identified the man who was killed when he was struck and killed Thursday by a tractor-trailer in a west Charlotte parking lot.
A tractor-trailer driver pulled into the lot at the corner of Freedom Drive and Thrift Road around 5 a.m., stopped there and went to sleep in the cab of his truck, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. He was waiting for a nearby business to open so he could make a delivery.
Around 6:30 a.m., the driver was awoken by someone who showed him that a man - Johnny Lewis Potts, 50 - was lying behind the trailer. Police said evidence at the scene suggested Potts had been struck by the tractor-trailer.
Police said they believe the driver did not know he'd hit Potts, and no charges have been filed.

It looks like the driver did a pull through and hit him?
We know one thing, he didn't do a post trip inspection. Was he going over hours delivering? He couldn't see the pedestrian while approaching the parking spot?
Whether it was the driver or pedestrian, somebody did something stupid and it cost a life.SheepDog Thanks this. -

Looking at the picture, it looked like an offset off the road. Maybe he backed up and pulled up some. Still what is that guy doing behind a trailer at 5am?
He was 50, so I don't know if he was up to no good or walking to work? I guess we'll never know. -
The area is known for homeless and crime, honestly I would not want to sleep there whether in a truck or on the ground. -

I could drive and be alert for many hours, but for some reason when the sun either came up, or went down, it made my eyes want to close.
