Maybe request they take your BP with a manual cuff instead of the automatic? Every time a 'medical professional', be it nurse, doctor, PA, whatever, takes my BP with one of those dang automatic things, it goes through the roof... case in point - for my DOT physical, the nurse used the manual and my BP was 112/70; 15 minutes later, the 'Pre-Work Screen' chick does it with the automatic one, and it was 132/90. :biggrin_25510:

At night you were relaxed and thinking about sleep. Probably had no caffeine in the hours before bed.

Now at morning, most fail to realize that things they do affect their blood pressure.

Got to have the morning coffee or soda. The jolt of the caffeine will pump up the blood pressure.

Next, some smoke and the jolt from the nicotene raises it as well.

In the morning before the test, get up and drink only water. Do not smoke. Avoid the radio or internet to avoid items that will create stress.

Go in with a clear mind and you will be surprised.

I was eliminated from a Co. at orientation because I had a high blood pressure issue two years prior to orientation. I learned the hard way not to be truthful when filling out the pre-exam form. I had high blood pressure because I was about 75lbs. overweight and my doctor put me on medication. I lost 40lbs. and my medication almost killed me because it became too much for my new weight. This companies doctor would not issue me a DOT card until I had clearance from the doctor that saw me in the emergency room. I explained to this jack ### that I have no idea who this doctor is and I would need time to find this info. I asked for a temporary card so I could proceed with orientation, and he would not do so. I located the doctor after about 4hrs. of phone calls and faxed him the documents that he needed to sign. The doctor refused to sign the papers due to liability issues (I don't blame him) and said I would need to see him before he signed papers. It basically came down to their doctor trying to pass liability off on my doctor. The craziest part of this story is that my blood pressure was good at the time of orientation and I had a valid DOT card in my wallet. Don't volunteer any info. to these people. This episode cost almost 400 bucks because I drove to their orientation and was not reimbursed because I didn't get the job.

I have, I had one last month who could not take my BP and she was using a baxter self contained sphygmometer and put the cuff on wrong - after I told her several times she had it on wrong, and the readings were over 200 she went to the manual sphygmometer which she pumped the bulb until it was 200 mmhg which just was so painful I screamed at her about the pain. The doc came in and acted as if I was the problem and I told her what the "nurse" did and she was really defensive then tried to tell me how it the sphygmometer works, I stopped her and asked her if I look stupid. I told her to wait to take my bp so I can settle down and when she did 30 minutes later, it was 120/84.

I had to learn how to properly take BP readings, and how to properly draw blood and I run into too many people who are clueless on how to do it right the first time. This is my life, I tell them if I don't like something and correct them if I have to. I've been fired by a couple doctors because I would say something about how something was done, especially with blood draws.

I have a problem with white coat syndrome (or white coat hypertension is the proper name) because of the stuff I've gone through with physicals and dumb doctors I end up with. I have yet to have a doctor more than a few years and then I have to find another one and train them. My first and longest running one was the one who delivered me and my siblings and he retired in 1980 - since it has been a roller coast of quality care.

There is more to the story.

Many places teach to pump in excess of 200 to start. I certainly do not see how it could be put on wrong, but it is your story. Anyone that cries of pain at 200 makes one wonder, but that is my opinion only. I pump to that level and beyond depending on the time and patient history of blood pressure. You may have presented signs of the higher limit which you were unaware of.

I can take it in an ambulance going down the road, standing next to traffic, in a bedroom or wherever.
