not sure can offer very much help if your using the clutch. but for floating just be smooth, slow on and off the pedal while coming in and out of gear. dont force it or just try cramming gears. before you know it will be going thru gears like a pro.

Sometimes you have to go back to basic's..When shifting go back to the double pumping of the clutch method,, if anything it'll give you a little extra time to bring your rpms up ....

They look for your reaction to the mistakes as much as the mistakes themselves.
Stay cool. Don't reveal that you're nervous or frustated.

    This.^^
They are definitely looking to see how you react to adversity. Stay cool, remember what you were taught and DO NOT GET MAD!
I was also tops in my school, aced the road test and written test. Went to May and passed my initial road test. Went out with my trainer and was doing great. Came back in for my solo out road test and BOMBED. Had to go back out with my trainer for two more weeks. Came back in again and killed that #### test!
The reason I failed is because I missed gears and panicked....started over revving instead of feathering the rpm's. My second road tester gave me some good advice. He said, "expect mistakes and prepare yourself to address those mistakes ahead of time."

The guy is getting to you. He's putting too much pressure on you so you're uptight when the tester is with you. That guy needs to back off some and help you relax so you can show what you'really capable of. In fact in I were you I'd go and have a talk with him as soon as possible. Just go into the bathroom and look into the mirror and let the guy have it.
