I'm pretty sure you'd fail your NESA and have your authority revoked as soon as the inspector sees you're in the clearinghouse.
You'd have to do the whole RTD process to the letter in order keep it active and I don't think that would fly as a driver and a carrier simultaneously.
Why didn't you plead your case to your employer when they called you for a test? Carriers have tremendous flexibility on how they conduct randoms.
If that 80k is burning a hole in your pocket I'd buy some gold or a piece of property instead of literally throwing it away on buying a truck without a customer.

“A failed DOT drug test does not directly impact a driver's CSA score, but it can indirectly affect a motor carrier's score through associated violations. While individual drug test results aren't part of the CSA data, actions like operating a CMV after a positive test or not removing a driver from duty can lead to citations that affect the carrier's CSA profile. The FMCSA Clearinghouse records these violations, and successful completion of the return-to-duty process removes the violation from the driver's record. “
So basically the first AI text is for the driver.
This AI text is how they get it from the carrier.
If OP starts his own carrier then the insurance company will find out..at least that’s my interpretationRideandrepair Thanks this. -

Few pieces of advice.
Don't buy gold for one. Never but gold unless you have a scientific or industrial use for it. Or are scamming dopes that think gold jewelry didn't go out of style in 1989.
Second, don't bother with IT. The job market is worse there right now than trucking.
Third, do your RTD asap.
Fourth, O/O as a new authority right now would likely result in wasting your hard earned money.
Fifth, file a request with LexisNexis for a CLUE report. Or just a full personal file to see what all is on there.
Lastly, you're in a rough spot. Companies ain't hiring spotless experienced guys, let alone SAP drivers. Spot rates are abysmal right now. IT has gotten the ole yeller treatment since Covid. And things in the near future don't look peachy either.
I'd get RTD done asap and apply for every job good or bad afterwards and look into other options. Hell with 80k you can buy a zero turn mower and a couple weedwackers and starting a lawn care service. I hear the people that typically do that work are finding themselves in foreign concentration camps. Might be a good business opportunity there.Rideandrepair, PoliRath and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -

Yea I did plead my case for what it's worth, but I still got fired. I'm currently in the rtd process on step 4. I just passed an at home drug test last night. Going to schedule an appointment at the lab at the end next so I can show a clean drug test to my SAP. That's where I'm at. I've heard it isn't as impactful on insurance as a lot of people make it out to be, but wasn't really sure. I was more curious if it would affect my ability to get a load. Maybe it isn't worth it. That's why I'm here asking. It's not like I wanted to dump my life savings into a truck, but the alternatives don't look great either.
