I went and got a quote for this truck, which is something I could reasonably afford. 2020 PETERBILT 389 For Sale in Portland, Michigan | TruckPaper.com This seems like a reasonable price to me? They didn't ask if I ever failed a drug test so, I wouldn't go out of my way to tell them if I don't have to.

I have half a mind to go run an MVR on myself to see if anything shows up. Never had an accident but wasn't someone saying a failed drug test can show up on there. I've also heard the opposite though.

Also, thanks for that YouTube guy. I'll definitely give him a call. I was going to see how getting hired goes. If I can find something decent, I'll probably just be an employee, but if not I'm not that scared to buy my own truck. I can afford to fail tbh.

I agree. I wouldn’t communicate directly with the Insurance Companies. Use an Agent. Be fully transparent with them.

I don’t think it will show up. Go get a copy from DMV. A copy on file is required for any new hire. Yourself as an employee if you’re running under your own Authority. Also an annual copy kept on file. Along with the annual Driver violations report. Might as well start now. Doesn’t cost much, each State has a different process.

Fail is a bad word. Lol. I’m reminded of my Father suggesting I stop using that word, and plan on success. It’s about decisions based on situations. An exit plan is a good idea, before losing everything. That’s a line to be drawn and not crossed. Finances change very fast in Trucking. I personally can’t justify any amount of start up spending or debt over $20k, But others spend or take on debt over $100k like it’s nothing. I know of a Company in Michigan that hired a Driver with 2 prior SAP . First was over 5 yrs prior. Second was recently. Don’t know how this Guys still Trucking. Still smoking weed. Running over 3000 miles a week. Making $1800 week. PM me if interested. They have freight.

That’s very cheap for a new entrant. Similar coverage for well established Companies with good safety ratings are around $10k per year. I was paying $9200. Low.value equipment $35k on Truck, $10k on Trailer. I’d be suspicious of that quote.

BUT once notified the clock to 'refusal to test' starts IF the company is following the DOTregulations.

Sounds good to me. Now the question is, should I re enter the game? Should I sell the company w/authority and equipment? The amount of work I’m doing now, isn’t worth the roughly 20% above todays median pay that I make. Bottom line is time invested. Tradesman making $30-$40 hr. w/ OT do much better than Truck Drivers. I don’t see any big demand for Drivers yet. Spent my whole life Trucking. All I see are the same old crappy jobs with high turnover rates. 40 years experience means nothing. It seems every form of work available is the same. Companies have a good supply of workers, and are more than willing to be constantly hiring, to keep wages low. Truckings just not worth the time investment, let alone the monetary investment. My neighbor who quit Trucking and now does HVAC just rolled up on his new Harley. Case in point. Making more money and has time to enjoy life.

Not sure why you're mentioning any of this. The OP didn't refuse to test. It's all moot. If the carrier wants to test someone, they will. If they don't, they won't. The carrier decides how/when they notify. Everything after that point is irrelevant.
