Well, you have 3 things working against you. Your age and your knowing nothing about the business or the trade. Don't be in such a hurry to "grow up". It's not all that special, anyway. You'll progress along like millions before you did. One step [in life] at a time. No leap-frogging past steps. There truly are no shortcuts in life and career.

If carriers generally avoid hiring under a certain age, you can bet insurers and lending people will too. And let's say you have a truck and trailer and requisite licensing and permitting and financial backing, how do you plan on putting all that into motion to generate consistent paid miles and having those good checks mailed to you regularly? Getting in possession of truck and perhaps trailer is only about 1/3 of the way there.

Becoming a Owner Operator is a muti step process. Its like opening a restaurant. I took an online course purchased a stove and some hot dogs, how long before I make a profit.

Agree. Financing without any prior expierience or knowledge of said business will be hard. New truck no way unless you have 80k down. Even used will be tough unless you have excellent credit. And still tough. Big trucks aren't just based on credit score. You gotta realize that over half the guys go out before 2 years and they know this. And I concur with the insurance also. Will be around 13-18k per year easily if own authority

Thanks everyone for the valuable input. I see that it obviously was just a pipe dream. I guess I'll try to get on with a company first, and take it from there. Thanks again!

You didn't mention your age but FYI I don't believe you can drive Class 1 in BC until 19. Alberta is 18.

That's what I hated about being young. You've gotta work 4x as hard to get something because no one takes you seriously.

Not so much a pipe dream, just a take some time, get your license with all endorsements, get a job as a company driver, learn all you can about the business, do that for 3-5 years and save save save sort of dream. The more cash you have to spend in the beginning will result in a bigger possibility you will be be successful. Like others have said, do not get in a big hurry, take your time and do it right the first time.

Alright, thanks again. Does anyone know if Bison has a new driver program that accepts someone that's 18? I saw on their site that they have a new driver program, but no mention of age. Would I be better off with a smaller provincial company maybe? Thanks again for your advice.
