It’s a pretty bulletproof engine provided it’s been rebuilt with genuine parts and it’s easy to work on. I haven’t checked lately but an overhaul only used to be about $12k out the door.

They’re good. Lots of info out there to be found. They steadily improved them over the years, before putting egr on them. Eventually replaced by the 14L. The 12.7s notorious for being simple and affordable. So many were built, parts are still plentiful. Lot of good aftermarket support offered by reputable Companies.

How much life would be left for non emissions trucks? With states starting to go green.

Most pre-emission trucks are used up and should be in the scrap heap anyways.

My pre emissions truck is better than any new truck. It won’t sit for weeks at a shop because they can’t get a sensor, or they can’t figure out what’s wrong with it.

Not bad for 22 years old, I’ve seen 3 year old trucks the look like junk.

Yeah that’s all great until you are told because you have an engine that doesn’t meet the emission requirements, you can’t register it for commercial purposes.

That green crap is coming, like it or not.

Sooner or later he'll need a part that's on backorder.

I'm assuming later. Old trucks are worth putting money into. How would a California style ban affect supply chains today? Can't see it in the next 20 years.

12.7 is a great engine. Easy to fix, simple design, easy diagnostics on the electrical system, cheap to fix and maintain.

Do you want to run Cali a lot? If no, no worries

I agree! I feel the same way about mine truck. Personally I would not buy a truck with emissions.
