AztecHybrid_810 and bowhunter3714 Thank this. -
OK sorry about the delay in responded to this thread I'm new to the forum and everything so I'm trying to figure it out. And to make it worse I'm doing it from my phone..lol. But let's start with the comment about us starting as an outlaw company and now just another trucking company. I can honestly say you know your history about where we came from and the repratation we had. I wasn't here then so I can't try and say a bunch of words to make it sound right or justified at what was done back then. But I can tell you this company was started in 1980 down in Texarkana, Arkansas by 2 guys who didn't have a truck so they leased to owner operators and together they all moved freight across the country. How they did it or what they charged or how the contracts looked I couldn't tell you. But this is the time start to that "outlaw" name you spoke of, but you also have to remember that everything about this industry was different back then. When i say everything i mean everything, the laws and people that enforced them, the ideal of a driver and company everything was different. Just like all the history of the world laws and the way things are done change as times change and we become more " civilized" as a human race.A couple years into it the 2 owners decided to add a company truck and it went from there over the next several yearsaverick Transportation became a company with stability and they kept adding company trucks as they could and seen fit, never over loading their budget or jepordising the future growth of the company. Along the lines one owner sold out to the other and Maverick became a single owner company. Steve Williams is that guy and he continues to be the owner today, Mr. Williams is a man that came from a long line truck drivers and drove his self for a couple companies back in his earlier days. This isn't a man that went out and used Daddy's riches to buy 3000 trucks and start a company and just hire anybody to drive them. This man worked for what he has and the position in the industry that he has obtained in the industry for himself and this company. This I have a lot of respect for. So back to the "outlaw company" a couple years before the eobr was brought into the picture Mr. Williams and VP was traveling down I-40 I believe it was and they were stopped in traffic just like we all have been from time to time, when they got up by the accident it was a big truck and some cars with families that would never be same again. This came to play critical role in the way things where about to change here at Maverick. Mr. Williams at that point said we will be 100% legal in every way possible, from that day forward things started changing here before they ever started changing in the industry. We became the "Mature company" that see today. We are equipped 100% with the eobr's and to honest I like them a lot more than I ever imagined, takes some a lot of stress out of day. We continue to make investments to further our safety standards for the equipment the drivers and everyone around us. So all I can say about who we where what we did and where we are is everyone makes mistakes growing up, its learning from your mistakes and improving that is called maturing or growing up. Like I said I can't speak for first generation drivers as I can for today here we are the Mature Maverick Transportation, we take pride in what we do and how we do it. We strive to improve as a driver, and as a company together we form our Maverick Family. As far Mr. Williams being up in DC from time to time you are correct is a supporter of the eobr's, you bet. Is he trying to force other companies out of a job to increase resources NO. We don't need to. He has beat the desk in DC for the drivers for a long time about many different things, but let me put it to you this way. Do you think eobr's are a bad thing forced upon drivers to make their life horrible or have ever thought of how many lives would have been different if they where already in place. How many drivers havefell a sleep because they just had to big the Super Trucker, how many lIves have been taken because of fatigue driving honestly if you are a driver how big of risk have you put yourself others around you at over the years. How many drivers have lost their careers and families due to the musical ulated log book. Even prison time. Have you thought it maybe a good thing to have some thing on our side to back us up in a bad situation. I personally think its a good thing we need to be more cautious of what we are doing and held responsible for the recession that we make out here. That is is what makes us Professional Drivers.
bowhunter3714, DADof3, RERM and 2 others Thank this. -
To answer the other questions trust me Im not a recruiter. I'm a driver thru and thru as far as referrals and getting $ for them we do but honestly I can't tell how much it is and at what point in that post did I say " Hey by the way my name is Tommy Hargis I drive truck #12801 and you need to put that on your app so I can get me some more $ and you can work where I work"...lol believe or not some people are still around that don't live and breathe making $ off of other people, I just like to help people get a step up in life. The way I see it if I can someone find a job and be happy with it like I am then I have accomplished something. But I guess I did kind of sound like a recruiter but I borrowed a few words from a piece a friend of mine wrote a couple weeks ago and put into the post I had it did kind of put that spin on it. But guys I live in south east Tennessee born and raised and I was brought up to honest and help everyone that can and also work hard it shows a lot about who you really are, this is where I am I found a company that thinks the way I was raised is a good thing. I have achieved several awards and advances here due to my work ethics and attitude not due to to who I knew or paid off or anything it was me really getting recognized for what I do and how I do it.
91Foxbody Thanks this. -
We do advertise some in the pilot magazine and other ways but we have guys that drive around to different cdl schools and other places to me that is more personal and you get a better ideal of who you are talking to. Oh by the way those guys used to drive trucks for us also.

[You are absolutely and correct man. We do have a lot drivrrs come and go but to be honest that is the industry wide. Our turn over is below the national average i couldnt tell an exact # or nothing. But we do have meeting and other things set in place to discuss driver retention and things we can do keep drivers longer and things like that. Like i said i just like help people and i loke whrre i am so i try and stay in touch with what the company is doing and decisions being made because ee have that type of abilty over here. I mean you aint going to see the full business side all the $ and figures and stuff but they share alot information with us you got to ask. QUOTE=SheepDog;3763286]If carriers put forth as much effort in "Retention" as they do in "Recruitment",,,what a change in driver professionalism we would see. I don't like Government intrusion what so ever but, if the Government forked over tax money to companies that focused on "Retention" instead of "Recruitment", that might be helpful as well. No, never mind,,,I don't want the Government forking over any of my tax money for any company to do anything...[/QUOTE]

I did I did. Trust me I couldn't be a recruiter all the people and things you hear and hoops to jump thru and things its not my cup of tea. But thanks for pointing that out maybe it was kind of nervous of what to put because I'm new at this being a social butterfly on the internet ...lol

But they do give something but on my behalf I did not ask for that either. Never mentioned it or said gave name and truck # to put on the app. Simply said I love my job and will help with questions people might have but I know the industry and the people in it so naturally the question is always how much are making and how bad are they going great me and lie me...lol

You quoted the wrong sentence above. I didn't post (They wouldn't be advertising for truck drivers in every magazine across the nation.)
What I posted was (Just wondering why a business would not advertise. That actually is not sound business practice.)
Advertising is a must in order to progress. I like your thoughts about Maverick. It's great to see people who look forward to waking up to do their job every day. -
Hargis 12801,haven't i talked to you before ?do you live in south pittsburg,tn.
