I deliver to a store that has an employee working there who has his masters in journalisim he makes 8 dollars an hour unloading trucks a degree guarantees nothing that being said trucking requires hard work determination and self discipline switch to trucking because you want to do it not because you think its a quick way to make money otherwise you will have a hard time in this industry .

I recently retired from the media after nearly 25 years. Worked as a copywriter, editor and reporter. Chinatown is correct. The industry is tanking thanks to the Internet where every Tom, Dick and Harry believes they are a writer or photographer or pundit and critic. This factor is responsible for the quality (read: lack of) of journalism prevalent in newspapers, magazines and broadcast today. In addition, this factor contributed to the decline of pay in the media. I went from earning over $1/word in the '90s to (at times) .10/word. After my last newspaper closed I took my retirement and came back to trucking as I was familiar with it since I drove part-time in the '80s for a local company to help pay for college. I'm much happier now and the stress level is almost non-existent compared to the deadlines I used to have. Of course, once you have your degree you can always teach but I prefer driving and being alone as much as possible these days.

Sometimes you have to be creative with the degree that you graduated with. When times change, you have to adapt to the change. While most people now no longer or barely read the newspapers anymore and anyone and their grandma has access to a computer and know how to use it can create all kinds of stories all over. It's about how you market yourself. You have to compete with the entire nation to get on top! At least from what I've heard, this industry is pretty much bullet proof on job security. Don't do drugs and don't get into a wreck and you'll never lose your job or risking the possibility of someone replacing you for a job.
