Due to a change at home I have to stay close to the IL/MO area so I have been looking for regional work.
I called a company about a Midwest Regional run and I was liking what I was hearing until the recruiter asked me if I had a passport. I asked why would I need a passport for a Midwest Regional run. The recruiter says oh you'll go to Canada on occasion. I politely thanked her for her time and hung up. When did Canada become part of the Midwest?
If you have reasons why you need to absolutely stay in a certain region/area then make sure you ask exactly what states you will be in and how often they send drivers out of their assigned region. If the recruiter can't give you good solid details then you better be very careful about taking the offer.
Before signing up for that regional run

Apply to schnider but do not take the job unless you get a dedicated account. Their reginal is 800 air miles versus their dedicated is 400 air miles and less

I think most companies will run you out of the region you hire on for if the need arises. You may spend a year running the midwest and then that load comes in that needs to go to Texas and your the only truck thats within 200 miles. Companies are more worried about serving the customer and not worried about the driver. Just saying

Each company's definition of Regional is different.
Could be anywhere from a 250 to 800 mile radius. -
To me getting it right is about 60/40 in favor of external customers. I will not drive for a company that thinks internal customers (employees) aren't just as vital as external ones.
Long winded response aside. You are correct and I am willing to go out of region on occasion, because I understand that is going to happen at times. -

Try jb hunt dedicated or intermodal you'll stay busy and great money.

Some parts of Canada are not very far from Illinois, so yes, that could well be within the region.
