Wow Opus that's really deep. I keep lots of bottled water and apples or bananas in the truck usually, if someone says they are hungry I'll give them a water and a piece of fruit.

They used to have a newspaper if I remember right the homeless sold, so they could make a couple bucks. At the time you would see them at intersections selling it..I think for 50 cents or a buck at the time. I didn't want the paper but I'd still toss the cost for one.

Hey, I can respect honesty(the beer sign guy), lol.

I remember reading stories like that back then in Tucson. Sadly it spread to all over the country.

Good for you. Sounds like you quit a winner.
I remember well the slot machines that took real coins. My real love is with poker, but I still play slots and roulette. I like all games , except head games that mess people up.

Just for the record, I feel most of the homeless are for sure mentally ill. In fact to believe that homeless people are hunky dory, A-OK in the mind , has to be quite unbalanced themselves. The rest are drug addicts, which is a different kind of mental illness. Not just those two in totality, but a majority im sure.

Does any remember a Dr Gene Scott, was a preacher long long time ago, he was on radio and tv. He was a preacher that someone would listen to for kicks but more just liked him. (i didn't listen to him unless someone else had him on and one time I heard him say " I don't care if you believe in the lord , i don't even care if you go to church......JUST SEND ME MONEY.....and this crazy world did it. He was a rich man of material wealth.

Dr Demento was much more entertaining. But he wasn't insane. or if he was he hid it well. Fish heads fish heads rolly polly fishheads...

I dont give them anything. They want the handouts for alcohol and/or drugs. When they ask me for money I tell them to go to the first place with a now hiring sign in the window.

A lot of those panhandlers make ten times what we do. I watched one in front of a busy gas station and people constantly hand him nothing less than a five. In twenty minutes he's got at least $50. He't there sun up til sun down and gone at night. Think about that! A day for him is easily $1000. Maybe more. There is probably a Rolls Royce parked around the corner, I would bet on it. Guys like that are actors! They figured it out. Some are bums, addicts, but some are slick actors and are just cashing in.

I blew a brake chamber on my truck, one Saturday night at a truckstop, and was trying to cage it Good enough to get home. Didn’t have a 15/16 wrench, I was trying to get by with a vice grips that I had. Needed the restroom, so I figured hey while I’m in there, I’ll grab a drink, and I’ll be back out in a few minutes. Well, couldn’t find my wallet. I turned that truck upside down and inside out, and could not find that stupid wallet. So I walked in without it, figured I can at least drop a deuce, panhandler sitting outside the door. He said, hey man, could you give me a dollar I’m hungry. I said sorry brother we’re in the same boat, I can’t find my wallet right now I don’t have anything either. Fast-forward an hour, I was ready to roll, Walked around to the passenger side of the truck, open the door, And there was my wallet laying on the floor. Walked back in to finally get my drink, panhandler still there. Well, since I was ready to go, I’ve bought him a slice of pizza, because I was in a good mood. Walked out the door with it, and the schmook had the nerve to tell me he doesn’t like meat on his pizza. Just set it on the ground. Still glad I went in to buy that drink though, 15 miles down the road, my brake cage came loose. Somehow, not exactly sure how, must not have had it locked quite right, had to use my Mountain Dew on a smoking brake drum. So it wasn’t entirely wasted, although it was used entirely different than I had intended!

    #### bro. Thats some bad luck there. Typical begger, dont want the food, just money so he can buy beer and smoke. Thats why I dont give them crap.

I was at the TA in OK City. Has a woman in her mid 30's (not bad looking) knock on the door and give me they story on how her husband bailed out on her and the kids. They were hungry, kids waiting in the car and she needed money for food, so she was willing to do the deed.

I told her to get the kids and meet me in the restaurant and I will make sure everyone would get a good meal. You would think that she would jump on that. Nope. She wanted money to jump on something else. I declined. She went two trucks down and well, that truck was rocking.

Again. Another example on why I will not give a handout.
