How do you respond to beggars? They come up to my truck daily. One guy had what he said was a computer in a bag I could look at. (A poor attempt at a scam.)Others are willing to wash my windows. Today another driver hit me up for cash. Then he sent his female coworker over. I simply cannot afford to support them. I just politely say no. I have a family to feed. Its like living in the ghetto. I keep my doors locked and a can of Mace nearby.

I tell them I don't carry cash and have a company credit card and they pay my way while I'm the road and deduct it from my check. Sends 99.9% of them huffing off to the next truck. Except for one lizard at the pilot in Syracuse who whipped out her smartphone, plugged a little card reader in and told me 'it's okay honey all you gotta do is swipe'. ####. Beat me at my own bluff lol I'm sure the look on my face was priceless. I recovered quickly though and told her I didn't really think my company would appreciate a charge to crack ###### r us hehehe she just stomped off to the other side of the row to try her luck with someone else.

If they say they need it for food I'm well stocked and offer to make them a sandwich and/or give them other things to eat to date not one has accepted.

I generally don't humor them but one who had his 'miracle cleaning solution' and was really pushy got to clean one whole side of my truck at the J in Houston before I told him I didn't have any cash. He wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise so I let him run his whole game and clean my truck lol then sent him walking. He wasn't happy.

Generally I try not to even have contact with them if I can help it. Usually I can see them coming and get my phone to my ear and brush them off because my conversation appears to be very important lol but if they catch me off gaurd the no cash excuse usually sends them walking

If I'm inside my truck, I just wave them on.
    Don't even open my Door/Window.

They would always come to me with some kind of 'story'. They will usually go away when you start asking them questions about their 'story' and require some type of verification. Like the lady who drove up in her SUV in Maryland and told me she needed gas money to get home to Richmond. Asked her if she'd called any of her friends or family, and she told me she dropped her phone and it was broken. Told her she could use my phone, and she said she couldn't remember any phone numbers. Asked her to bring me her phone and I'd download the numbers through the USB port to my computer so she could make some calls. She went to her SUV, and I never saw her again.

Find some way to make them prove their 'story', and it usually unravels to the point where they can't recover from the lies.

I was in a truck stop in Kansas City. The Flying J there on Front street off of 435. A beggar came up to me and gave me a bag of various cleaning or grooming products. Soap, razor, tooth brush and paste, a comb. Stuff like that. Said a trucker gave it to him and he thought I could use it.

    Sorry, I don't carry cash.

You will see these people all over many places you go from the "gas can" story to the "micracle cleaner". Since it's illegal to kill them you just have to say no.

I wish I had money to buy one big farm to get all these guys employed somewhere south. Some simple manual labor, just to provide for themselves, get treated like a human being again, maybe stand on their feet and become a member of society . I wonder how many would choose this option over begging , dumpster diving activities plus freezing to death occasionally.
Actually one could aim for next to zero unemployment with a program like this. If someone says that's over board, I think collecting unemployment checks for years is, especially when the country is broke.

Begging is less work. For a few, it is what they want to do as a carrier, take a look at some of their high dollar shoes.
