Ask for a brand new truck before you go , might make all the difference.
I am guessing lots of drivers are sitting more than they would like to in this economy

The last time I went out to Phoenix I actually ended up taking the day off. I got empty on a Monday morning and they couldn't find a thing. They ended to deadheading me to Nogales for a load to Aurora, CO. Then again, it's January so it's always on the slow side. The pockets hurt from about January to March, maybe mid February.free spirited1, TB John, JoeyJunk and 1 other person Thank this.

I believe it with how full the truck stops always are in Phoenix mid day. I think I might have had unrealistic expectations for downtime between loads since I always worked for upper Midwestern companies. Freight is probably a lot easier to find near Chicago than in a desert lol.
Still bothered that layover pay is lower than breakdown pay, but better than none at all. Worse places to be spending January 10th at than a 75 degree day in Phoenix, so it’s all relative I guess.free spirited1, TB John and JoeyJunk Thank this. -

With the breakdown pay mileage adjustment, I was able to hit the mileage bonus for Dec. 6 to Jan. 6, so I can at least say that is a real thing here and not a chasing the dragon situation that’ll never be obtained. I don’t know how consistent it’ll be, but at least made it once, so getting +4 cpm helps a little.
If everything goes smoothly for a month, I could see where drivers could gross 75-80k in a year, but still waiting on the ‘goes smoothly’ part -
Things picked back up. Took a load from Nogales, AZ to drop at terminal in Lebanon, TN. Deadheaded up to Lexington, KY and now headed to drop this load in Dallas and take a 34. Preplanned for Monday already to head up to Elkhart, IN for a FCFS delivery, so should be about 3800 miles in 8 days. I guess I need to work on my patience a bit with the holidays. There’s 100 other places I’d rather go to than Elkhart after working for a Joliet, IL outfit for a year, but at least it’s from Dallas and not across I-80. Should be easy miles

Just gets more and more pitiful by the day. Sitting here in the Dallas yard waiting for an empty. See a truck pull in. Brand new truck with the mirror cover tore off. They drop their trailer, I check that it’s empty and then hook up and pre-trip it.
Greeted by this tire that’s been bald for at least a couple months at this point. Maintenance had zero concerns about drivers (multiple to be that bald) dropping junk. Just a ‘do you mind taking it to get a new tire?’Attached Files:
