Where does diesel cost $4.00 a gallon these days? It's more like $2.00. There's places in NJ that sell for $1.50!

Im guessing he used an old business model when fuel was still high which wasn't that long ago. Watching the price of oil rise slow and steady over the last 5 days id say its not a bad idea to leave it.

I am aware. Using their fuel discounts I get it even cheaper. When I track my expenses and stuff I'm using the current fuel prices on the pump. For budgeting and planning I use 4.00 a gallon.

That rate out here was fantastic but now they can't find me a load. I'll give it another hour or so then I'm heading to the truck stop. It might be tomorrow.

Got a load tomorrow heading to OK. I should get it off Wednesday and hope to squeeze in two more loads this week. If I can get 2 more in it will be a big week in revenue.

You gotta learn to 'pace' yourself...........don't try and be a load 'HOG' all in 1 week

You'll get deeply discouraged when you find weeks that are slower

I hear you. This week started off well getting one off on Monday. 3 loads is what I expect unless they put me on one of the western lanes. Getting one off already opens me up to squeeze in an extra one if all goes well. I could do more if I drove faster but I love getting big MPG numbers too much to do that. I don't rush or get in a hurry. I have been really impressed with this 386 so far.

Good information and glad it is starting out well. Are they sending you anything so that you can confirm rate? If not, don't be afraid to spot check them.

Also, pay attention to markets. You got lucky coming out of UT. That could have been a tough one to turn into a profitable week if they didn't get something solid.

I was in the office during orientation and had him walk me through the system. Once a load is entered it just follows through. There aren't ways to edit the rates without throwing a bunch of other things off. They use McLeod software. I suppose they could Doctor it somehow but it would be a lot more trouble than it's worth. I know from my years in dispatch that people just don't have time for those kind of games. They send me a message with the line haul they are getting, the total fuel, and any stop pays. It's up to me to do the math to get my rate of 72% of line haul plus 100% FSC. Since I started, my average is at 1.36 a mile on all miles.

I agree about the markets but these guys are a little insulated from that being their runs are so regular and they hit the same areas so often. They aren't an irregular route carrier. Many of their runs out of Arkansas are the same runs every week. They still service one customer in particular every week on the same run they have been doing for 13 years.
