I pull Flat,.. but I personally dont run loads that dont pay detention. If I see something like that I call back and ask for a new 'modified' booking sheet or cancel the load. Soon as you see something like that you know the broker will use/find any excuse to cut or penalize your rate. That just burns me up.

I don't sign any rate confirmation that has wording about fines.....PERIOD!! If there is anything about fines, I mark through the wording and initial it before signing. As I have told brokers who have this on their confirmations, anything can happen that is not in my control which could cause me to be late. I prefer not taking loads that have a hard delivery time. I also like to make my own appointments. The truck could break down, bad weather, accidents or other issues are out of my control and could cause me to be late. That is why I won't sign a confirmation with a hard delivery time, especially one that I don't make myself. I have an excellent on time pick up and delivery record. But, anything can happen and I refuse to take a load that has fines attached. It is bad business. I have no doubt that some drivers don't put as much credence on their reputations, but those are the ones who won't make it in this business for the long term. It is a good idea to read any rate confirmation very carefully. You need to fully understand the terms. Once you sign the agreement you can be held liable for the terms. It is assumed by the courts that you have agreed to all terms listed in the contract when you signed your name.

P.S
In the early 80's I was leased to a company charged 10% if you was one minute late if the customer complained. -
Real drivers don't let a broken down tractor stop them from making their delivery times. Real drivers strap the trailer to their back and drag it to the receiver.
ramblingman and thelushlarry Thank this. -

Have you read the broker contract you signed when setting up with this broker?
