Sounds like a smaller company on paper would be my guess. And no, I doubt they have a "safety dept" and if they do, they are in on the future cover-ups if they anticipate being around long enough to be audited.

Only thing you can do is look for other work. This sort of thing is rarely a one-off. You can probably expect this to be a regular occurrence and how you do or don't react (complain) will probably be irrelevant. Start putting feelers out for other work, then once you get something else lined up, do what you need to do.

It's one thing to run over your 70 once in a blue moon where it's advantageous to you and the carrier, but to do this as a matter of routine will
    1. get you burned out quick
    2. get your CDL pulled if you are ever hit with a flagrant and malicious violation and/or get you points that will make you unemployable in the driving trade
    3. find yourself with payroll checks that don't clear because the fly-by-night outfit had to put the key in the door

    Dominick253 and Lepton1 Thank this.

Sounds like the OP is running for some old timer big bad "outlaw" carrier.

Heck, he should post the carrier's name and what the trucks are governed at! Probably have his replacement and a few backups sitting in the wings by week's end! Then the OP can move to a carrier that stays compliant while the old outlaws go and do their thing into the sunset.

How you handle it is simple. You say "No." That's it. Don't argue the freaking point with them. Say No and hang up the #### phone.

Also after you say No ... you tell them the earliest appt time you can deliver it at... then you don't go through this a second time.

i just don't understand.... you didn't use your real name! at least help out some of us new guys out by telling us what company is doing this and we will stay as far away as possible. you were concerned enough to mention it here, obviously you don't want your fellow truckers to get shafted by this company.

    G13Tomcat Thanks this.

Yeah, you need to tell this place good-bye. It doesn't seem like this is an isolated issue. Do your trip planning and figure out just how long it will take to get to your destination, and document that on your QC or on an email. Leave a paper trail for whatever you decide to do. Remember, you are the one that is going to be swinging in the wind without a lifeline is something happens. That company is going to dump anything that happens on your shoulders and say, we trained him better than that, and you'll be left with a CDL that isn't worth the paper it is printed on. This isn't something abstract, it is real, and you are the one that will suffer if things fall apart. Safe travels

Steer Wheel Holders like the OP is the problem now days....asking what he should do. 1) Grow a pair of Balls. 2) Tell Whoever That You Don't Have Hrs Avl For Legal On-Time Del 3) Dust Off Applications To More Reputable Outfits.
