The negative peaks touch at whatever point the technician made it happen.
If he wants 100% modulation with the mic gain knob at zero he can set it up that way. If he wants 100% modulation with the mic gain halfway he can set it up that way also. If he wants 100% modulation with the mic gain wide open he can do that too.
Different microphones have different output voltages requiring different mic gain settings.
It's kind of difficult to generalize when there are so many variables involved.

Newbie to forum.
I just purchased a tuned 29 from Bells Also purchased an Astatic 636 noise canceling mic.
So running mic gain at half to 3/4 is recommended? I want to be heard but don't want others not wanting to hear me. I personally don't like talking with drivers with a bone stock radio. To hard for me to hear behind the gear noise. I also don't like echo boards or distortion. Loud and clear is what I'm hoping for.Blaskowitz and bored silly Thank this. -

Since Screwdriver @ Bells is unable to do consistent work it would be necessary to connect it to an oscilloscope to find The Sweet Spot.
We would be unable to advise you where to set the mic gain without the proper tools. -
