I've been seeing the term "mature" in regards to new authorities in other threads and posts. My question is, how do you benefit from it and how long should you let it sit before putting it to use?

It is overrated, IMHO. 6 months and most of them - brokers - deal with you. 1 year - all of them will deal with you. It is not like you won't book a load 1 day after mc# is active, maybe 1 out 6 will tell you, you not ready yet. It is a different matter if you are talking about a fleet of more than 10 trucks and MC# that is 10 years old or something like that, it must instill more confidence in brokers and shippers - that's all what an older, mature MC# does.

I don't think, that getting a MC/DOT # and letting it sit idle for years will do any trick either.

I had a broker a few weeks ago that required 2 years of operation. It was a pretty good paying load, too.

It is better. People see your new MC and try to lowball you like crazy, not trust you or whatever. Yes, you will get loads with new MC, but will have to deal with a bit more BS.

But the only way to get it to mature is to use it.
