Whatever company you lease on with, you are required to use their liability insurance. You can use your own bobtail. Depending on how the MC is structured you may need to get plates through them. If they are a MC that also has a broker credential, you can use your own plates, although you may not want to spring for 48 states if the company your going to work for is doing a 16 state regional.
I opt for a not too skinny chic, with a huge kitty.

1) Dedicate yourself fully, that means everything else is secondary to pick up, delivery, maintenance of your truck, and paper work.
2) Save every penny.
3) Don't shine on your truck's minor repairs, always check the tires and oil, water, and other routine items, or you will suffer.
4) Keep current on your IFTA, and all other taxes ( quarterly's).
5) DO NOT BEAT ON THE TRUCK. EVER.
6) If you do all these things, you will find you have no time for anything else, except for when you decide to shut 'er down for a few days, and then you will spend a day or two, getting things maintenanced, looking at your house going " wow wtf happened here? ".
7) The reason its a life style, is because it is your life, it's all consuming.
8) Dedicate yourself fully, that means everything else is secondary to pick up, delivery, maintenance of your truck, and paper work.
9) Never forget there is Jesus.
There typically is some decent freight, that's been my experience, but are you willing to go where it is? IE; Usually the frozen tundra, or some other fun places in the dead of winter, on top of that they probably are irregular routes.
Lucar, blairandgretchen and already gone Thank this. -
So all I need is a truck, work ethic, mechanical ability, and some money for unexpected experiences? I can go buy a truck that passes inspection, call up whatever company I want to lease onto, and they will help with the rest?

APU!

Also what else you might need kinda depends on the carrier. Some micro manage, some are very hands off. -
I would imagine with what I want to do, it would be hands off. It's why I wouldn't bother looking at dry vans, or reefers.

At Kaplan. Ohio takes sweet ### time. Took me about 30 days for title and plates to clear . You need all your chains, binders ,Straps, coils racks. And you can rent a trailer until you order a brand new one. Or you can buy used.
already gone Thanks this. -
You run for them? Are you one of the guys at republic Lackawanna every day?

You need 6 months coil experience here. But I only haul coils every blue moon. When other freight is slow.
