Well I'm nearing 240k on my Coronado and these factory mounted Michelin XDA3 drives are looking pretty thin. Not as good on traction in winter as last year.

Is there a better tire out there, in my tire size? Better life, better rolling resistance, etc?

Take a look at the Bridgestone M710 Ecopia. It is low rolling resistant. I ran a set of M726 all the way down to the melon skins. Not certain how they will perform in snow. I haven't run a drive tire since removing that set. I ran a set of General S371 and they were great. I am currently running the Continental HSR2 as there wasn't a full set of the HSL2 or the Generals in stock. I have been going up to the N.West and have had no problem in the snow. Naturally, I chain up when required and necessary. Running the all position is not for everyone but it works for us.

THe M726 is an excellent tire, IF you rotate them and take care of them. The 710 Ecopia has an identical tread design, close but, not the same. I don't think you will find 24.5" tires that are Smart Way verified. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Easy answer ... HSL2 Eco plus. Michelins are good tires but you are paying an obcene premium for the name.

since I run the Rockies a lot, I don't feel comfortable with running steers in the drive position. Plus according to Continentals website, as far as I can tell, they're not offered in 24.5

Michelin XDN2, excellent all season traction. I never rotate drive tires. My last set served me for a full 3 years or between 300.000-350.000ml. I sold the truck with them, still at 30% usable thread. Btw I used to run east Canada to Cali.

Goodyear G572. I have them in 24.5lp and got some of the first production tires made. I have similar mileage on them that you stated and all are still around 20/32nds. They are Smartway approved as well and come with 30/32nd new. I'm very happy with mine and expect them to go 500k miles.

That 572 is an awesome looking tire. I had whittled my list down to select few tire models. The G572 was a candidate. Yet, on purchase day, the decision came down to availability. Well, when one buys good tires, purchase intervals are few and far between so maybe next time.

I keep hearing good things about XDN2, in both dual and super single configurations. Kinda leaning that way.
