If you use a normal battery charger DO NOT leave it wired to the batteries when you start the truck, your alternator will fry the battery charger.

    icsheeple Thanks this.

You could still use one, just put a couple of switches on the positive and negative wires that go to the batteries.

Then forget to flip a switch and poof, magic smoke.

I'll just hook it up manually on the rare occasions I need to charge the batteries.

That's what I would do. Martin has one of those xantrax deals, he has cooked 2 batteries so far, must be that doing it by the sound of it.

Yeah, boiling a batt isn't the end of the world, and the batt should be fine once cooled and refilled if you boiled off too much water. I liked martins setup. Too bad it supposedly got him killed, lol.

I bought sealed maintenance free east penn dekas, but you can still pop a cover to test the fluid and add if they ever boil over. They are designed to vent instead of boom.

My Ict sleeper has a hard wired batter charger that hasn't fried a battery in 1.5 million miles. It is on every time I start the gen set. Check rv supply stores to get a good battery charger.

My gen is a powertech cd8000, over 23,000 hours and running great, only one belt to water pump, direct connect to gen, no alt or fancy control panel. Would buy another one if this one dies. Factory said it should mak 50,000 hours.(cost $8000 today)

Got any specs on that charger? Is it seperate from the generator?

The generator looks cool. Can you explain it a little better? Does it kick on and off with low voltage from batteries? Can you set a thermostat on your AC and will the generator kick on and off to conserve fuel?
