As a certified Diesel mechanic I chose to save money and chance problems associated with buying a lower $$ machine. At 2/3 the cost of the "Tri pack" , I feel in the long haul I will be better off. I purchased the second year warrantee as well.
Things I like....6500 watt generator....600cfm blower speed...VERY robust AC...quiet.......Concerns....that big generator is gonna cost $$$ when she goes.
In closing...I am super happy with my investment and plan to keep after it with good maintenance A "redneck " APU is a great idea ( a direction I almost chose)...BUT with it comes both extra work and worries about both fire and theft of generator...Having a unit that is "stand aqlone" (starts -stops self...monitors batteries ...fuels its self...shuts down when not needed...ect)....Priceless...IMHO....
I'll keep you apprized... -
Do you know anybody that has one of these units? They look like a good way to get AC without cutting or having to set a window unit up each time.
Curious about performance when ran on small generator like a Honda 2000 -

I am hoping to find something that will run off of 1 Honda 2000, but I have 2 that can run together and provide 4000 watts....just gets to be a little bit of an operation. Works great in the camper though -
Have you gotten a price from anyone yet?icsheeple Thanks this. -

WOW! was not expecting that. Should be able to cool a house at that price -
Keep in mind the window AC unit is much more efficient than the portable unit is. I have a 5000 btu window unit and it draws about 5.5 amps I think compared to my previous portable unit which claimed to be 8000 btu but it drew 8.8 amps and was at the maximum possible for my single honda 2000. It sometimes ran it but it tripped a lot when the compressor would cycle on. Now my honda 2000 runs about 7-8 hours per tank (1.1 gal) running that 5000 watt window unit as well as computer, tv, laptop, printer, all at the same time. I open the hood and put the generator beside the frame and lock it to somewhere then close the hood. Someone would have to have some pretty big balls to try stealing it.
icsheeple and scottied67 Thank this.
