I thought the Honda 2000 was rated for 13-16 amp output? how are you measuring the amp draw on your AC units?

^ is the link showing what it is rated for.

^this is the link to the portable ac unit which the honda 2000 had a hard time when the compressor kicked on. Sometimes it would run it, but most of the time it would go into overload protection meaning i'd have to get out, turn it off, crank it up again and hope for the best.

^here is a link showing the btu ratings of window units vs. portable units. The window unit with the same btu rating as a portable unit can cool a room about 50% bigger. Take a look at the chart, 10,000 btu unit portable ac = 300 sq ft room while the same 10,000 btu window unit does a room 450 sq. ft. For this reason it is hard to find a portable ac unit with a rating of less than maybe 8,000. The window unit gets the same job done with less btu's.

Any way you do it you have to setup the generator and an air conditioning system, unless you have it plumbed into your truck somehow. I originally thought about getting a bigger generator to run the portable unit I have which now sits in my garage at home collecting dust, and cut a hole in the floor for the hot air output. I also had the window unit I use now, only bought it because it was $70 - I couldn't leave it there ... and now I have a use for it. The window unit is the way to go, trust me. 5000 watts is enough for me, I only run i-80 and north, plus PA, NJ, MD, DE. For southern climates I can see how a more powerful unit would be required.

13 amps on the 120 AC and 8 amp on the 12 volt. If I looked at the 7000 BTU Blizzard specs right the Honda should run it just fine.

Performance is still unknown. It would be nice to find somebody that has one of these units.

However, if the price that Oscar got is just for the AC unit and not the whole kit (battery bank, box, install etc) it does not make sense for me. It would be more cost effective to idle.

I don't see myself using a window unit or cutting a hole in my roof.

Well, more power to you then. I can only share my experience.

I agree, but the only other alternative for me is a rooftop unit. And I really don't want to cut a hole in the roof of a new truck.

watts divided volts = amps... so a 2000 watt generator should be rated at 16 plus amps...same thing the other way...volts time amps = watts

Keep in mind those units can only put out 16 amps for a short period of time. As soon as you put a load on it drags it down so less output.

I can't remember but if they find out your a commercial truck the warranty is cut way down.

16 amps is the load...should be able to handle it.....start up draw...that's another story

The Honda eu2000i is rated 2000w surge, 1600w continuous. They do the same as every other generator maker does and print the surge rating on the side of the case. That's 13.3A at 120V.

It will actually handle a start up surge on an a/c unit that approaches that run limit. It just won't do it when eco mode is turned on. The surge hits faster than the generator can accelerate to meet the demand. With eco mode off, it's already running fast enough to take the momentary overload.
