I agree with you on the Acert motors, expensive parts, looking at 6.5-6.8 mpg for the quarter. However, as for paying extra for the early Cat name I dunno about that. 3406b, 3406E, and the 6nz have been really good motors for me. Very reliable, power is very smooth, and aren't crazy expensive on parts. Wish they were still making those motors today, I would have more trucks.
Best cat engine to purchase in used semi?

Very good point Wore out. The 3406b is def not for the new aged trucker, or mechanic. Personally, I would not give up my 3406b for anything. But like you said I diagnose it by feel and sound going down the road. Have had it since new just a hair over 3 million miles ago. Rebuilt it over the years but it runs very tight and it's super reliable. But I would not put a driver in that truck. Someone who does not read gauges could do some serious damage to that motor very quickly.

I think when it comes to motors it comes down to preference and driving style. I'm a cat guy, doesn't mean I'm Anti Cummings or Detroit I just don't have the same comfortabilty with them. The N14 and silver 92 are fantastic motors I think, just don't fit how I drive.
Do you still have the one in the pic or did something happen. I thought I remember reading on here somewhere that you have a different truck now? -
I like Cat because in most cases they're a lazy engine. Don't seem to pick up or drop RPM as fast as other brands do.
