Just awhile back I saw a Uniden PC68xl at a Petro truck stop for $80. Very nice radio for the price. I own an older PC68 and I've gotten complements on how good it sounds. I believe some of the best sounding stock microphones, are the silver faced bearcats. That's what this radio has. Here's an eBay link to show you what one looks like.

I frequently buy non-working radios at theswap meet, most actually work, sometimes I replace finals, and a few caps. Theres quite a few people that come to me to buy touched up radios. Tuned up to 2 watts dead 5 or 6 watts with audio. I don't push radios that I sell, and I only sell to people I know, generally. Used radios I have had the luck that most of them work fine, 4 watts normally nothing special. But at a minimum its a gamble.
If I change mic's I never put amplified mics, I like noise cancelling mics, and tune the audio circuit a bit.
