I know this is abig personal prefferance however what does everyone think is the best cb to get. Only thing is I only want to use the factory power. I dont want to run a thicker power wire

You can go up to about 30 to 40 watts using the trucks wiring.
Most standard Cobra 29 LTD will tune to about 25 to 30 watts as well as many other brands.
You may need to use just a little higher rated fuse on the CB power cord.

So many choices on radios but the Cobra 29 has been around forever.
A good tech doing the peak and tune on a 29 will give you a good sounding radio.

The "best CB" is a loaded question. Also depends on what you need it to do.

For the typical OTR trucker that plans to run on 19 and doesn't need sungle side band, I personally recommend the Cobra 25 radios as well as the Uniden PC 66/68 radios....as these radios give you everything you need in one package w/o a bumch of useless stuff.

The 29's are better if you want to add an echo board or want to add a few noise toys as they have a little more room, but not much. A Uniden PC 76/78 is about the same as the 29.

Either way a 25, 29 or a 66/68 or 78 all give you the same amount of performance. I prefer the Uniden radios as they are typically cheaper than the Cobras plus they still use their own boards.

Also the best Cobras were the ones built by Dynascan with Uniden boards in them.

When starting out with this cb stuff, i suggest
planning for a system that can grow. A cobra
25 or a Uniden 66 is ideal. At first you need nothing
special as far as direct power to the battery.
don't let anyone do a super tune or any name they
use that takes out the modulation limiter. Build a
system in the beginning that focusses on the antenna,
coax, mounting. Then when, not if your ready for more
power you have the basics covered.

X2 on the antenna system. Run a one piece coax to a stainless mount and stud and the tallest antenna that will fit. But not a Wilson fiberglass one. I had one that lasted 3 months before it shorted out.

    Voltrucker Thanks this.

Don't get the "super tune"! This mod is nothing but a problem causer! Causes nothing but distorted audio and decreases the life of your finals. Just get a basic peak and tune! Run a Astatic 636 or a Road King 56. The new Road King's are made by a different company now and they don't sound as well as when Turner made them. Run a Wilson 2000 trucker series antenna. I recommend buying the radio and getting the work done by Chuck at the I-40 Exit 126 CB Shop in Tennessee. He's a OUTSTANDING tech and is VERY reasonable! Call him at 731-847-9296. His hours are M-F 8-5 and Saturday 8-12 CST.
