I'm understanding Verizon has the best nation-wide coverage. Is it by far and away the best and something you can't do without as an OTR driver?
How is T-Mobile? Have any T-Mobile customer drivers been forced to change because of lack of coverage?
Thanks in advance.

Voice is great with T-Mobile, data not so much.

I had TMobile before I got my first Smartphone.
Worked OK at best.
Switched to Verizon, works good for me.
They are prolly the most expensive though..Scoots Thanks this. -
I have T-Mobile for my phone, and Verizon for my internet.
Verizon seems to have better coverage in some areas, but they both lose it in certain areas.
If I had to choose between the two, I would go with Verizon.
(My T-Mobile phone is on a family plan with my sister. It's only $10 a month.) -
Scoots Thanks this.

I've got Verizon voice and data for pretty much the reasons stated. Is it pricey... a bit, but then again so is ##'ing up. I have a GPS app on my Android tablet (which I'm typing on right now) called Smart Truck Route with full color Google Earth Satellite maps, truck stops in real time, pinpoint locations (I can actually just touch where I want to go)- I always have service unless I'm on US-36 in MO which is odd but its only a 20 mile stretch. Yeah its costly, I pay about 160/month BUT the beauty of it is I'm never wrong about directions which is a big deal (I still carry an atlas just in case). As an added bonus it uses the IDENTICAL route my dispatch gives me 95% of the time and lets you create waypoints for the other 5%. To me comms is a big deal- your job and possibly even your life depend on them. A cheaper company that leaves me stranded in a mountain blizzard or broke down in the desert isn't worth it. Keep in mind one wrong turn can easily cost you big money. T-Mobile leaves quite a bit to be desired in terms of coverage and the responsiveness of 4G is kind of a big deal.
Insert idiocy about the value of payphones, cheap atlases from 1957, and CB radios below... seriously, I can use that crap too but why risk being wrong when being wrong can cost thousands of dollars? Is $100 more a month a big enough set back to justify wasting 50+ hours a month on trip planning and finding a place with a phone you can use? Must be aggravating... I don't get that logic.
Just for clarification: I use Verizon 14GB data, unlimited talk/textLast edited: Sep 4, 2014

I have Sprint, which im told is the worst by just about everyone. But I have truely unlimited data, voice and text. Plus free roaming data, voice and text.... I drive all over the US streaming pandora or Iheart radio with hardly an interuption on a 3g iphone. I have a 4g tablet through Sprint too. I have a plan that is no longer availible that a sprint customer service rep told me I would be stupid to give up. I pay 160 a month for 4 phones (all unlimited) and the tablet is 15 more bucks for a gig of data.
I dont get much Sprint coverage in the upper midwest, west of Fargo to California and some of the Southwest. Great coverage in the East, South and midwest....but where Sprint converage is sketchy, I get the extended roaming for no extra....
Happy Sprint customer since 1999.... but I guess the only one....lol -
There is a lot more infomation in the following forum section. Might be a good read for you. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/cellular-voice-data/
I know Verizon is the best but part of me wants to give sprint a try just based on how much cheaper their plans are now they've decided to directly take on T-mobile. I wonder if a good cellphone booster might be able to mitigate the problems Sprints network has. -
I use Verizon and have good coverage but will go into extra charge in such places as Spearfish, SD.
